Nexus 4 Shipping Times Aren’t Improving, They’re Getting Worse

Published

Nexus 4 shipping times continue to get worse, several weeks after the device went up for sale the second time after selling out on its first day of availability on Google’s Play Store.

Since the end of November, Google’s latest Nexus 4 smartphone has been sold out through Google’s Play Store. While the 8GB Nexus 4 remains completely sold out and unavailable to purchase, the 16GB model is still on sale, making it one of the only ways that customers interested in ordering a Nexus 4 can pick one up through official means. Problem is, shipping times continue to get worse, not better.

The Nexus 4, is in the middle, has seen its shipping times get worse, not improve.

The 16GB Nexus 4, which was once listed as shipping out in five to six weeks, is now listed as shipping out six to seven weeks, a change that happened rather recently and one that puts the shipping dates for the Nexus 4 well into 2013 for those looking to pick one up today. Google has yet to say when the 8GB Nexus 4 will go back on sale. It’s also declined to say if it will have lengthy shipping times when it does go back on sale.

When the 8GB Nexus 4 last was available to order, shipping times were in the double digits in terms of week.

So, when it comes to the Nexus 4, it appears that shipping times are getting worse before they will get better, something that isn’t encouraging for those that might still be interested in picking one up from Google. And sadly, that’s the only official route that users can take to get the unlocked version of the Nexus 4. Other routes, like eBay, are extremely expensive with the going rate for the Nexus 4, in both storage options, much steeper than the price that Google is asking for the smartphone.

The increase in shipping times for the 16GB Nexus 4 come shortly after Google put up the Nexus 4 bumper case for sale again through its online store. And like the phone, the bumper case sold out within a few hours and now has a “Sold Out” sign plastered on the front of it leaving customers unable to order one.

Nexus 4 bumper cases are also extremely expensive through eBay with prices well over the $19.99 asking price from Google.

LG has said that the Nexus 4 supply issues are because of the high demand for the device and at this point, it seems like the demand is not slowing down which means that the Nexus 4 should remain scarce well into 2013.

Awesome. I ordered mine on the 27th too. Gave me a 2-3 week ship date. Received it 2 days ago (December 10th). So far, I have no regrets from trading in the Samsung Galaxy S3 to the Nexus 4.

Hey at least you can order one. Here in Australia we were the first to get stock, so we had no idea how popular it would be. It sold out in 20 minutes.
Since then, no one has been able to order a single one. And now even the Nexus 10 is sold out with no indication of stock arriving any time soon.

I’m from Aus too. Was going to order one but missed out. I’m pretty much over it now and will probably wait for something newer with 4g.

I ordered mine on 11/13 (launch day) and am still waiting…
11/13: I ordered, and received e-mail saying to be delivered in 3-5 days; a pre-authorization appears on my credit card
11/15: e-mail “update” says my order got backordered. Shipment “within 3 weeks.
11/26: e-mail says “will ship this week”
11/28: e-mail telling me to “update my payment information”
11/28: I “updated” my payment information in Google Wallet though nothing had changed
12/3: Google rep says on phone it will ship “this week”
12/5: e-mail says my payment method update is “confirmed” even though it didn’t change
12/10: Google rep says order is “pending” but has no other information
12/12: Google rep still knows nothing.
    ??/??: Actual delivery??

Evidently the “4” in the name stands for how many they actually manufactured.

What do you expect? Scalpers are buying whole lots of the phone from the Google Play store and then selling them for almost double the price. The Buy It Now price for an 8 GB Nexus 4 on ebay is $500.

Adam, I’m surprised you wrote an article about shipping times getting worse and not about the quirky-ness of Google’s shipping priority. Users on reddit and xda have posted their experiences with placing a second order two to three weeks after their initial order and receiving shipment for their second order in a matter of days — with their first order stuck in a limbo. Their second orders’ should have been shipped at least 5 weeks later.
