HTC’s One X, one of the more well-known Android devices of 2012, will almost assuredly be replaced with a new smartphone next year. That phone is thought to be the HTC M7, a device that has been rumored already and today surfaced again in a more detailed manner courtesy of UnwiredView. The site claims that is has secured a specification listing for the HTC M7 which shows a host of upgrades over the HTC One X.

The HTC One X could be replaced by the HTC M7 in February.

The HTC M7 is rumored to feature a 4.7-inch 1080p display, smaller than many of its rivals (both rumored and real) including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Droid DNA. It’s also expected to have a Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage space, LTE and HSPDA connectivity, a 13MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, a 2,300 mAh battery and Android Jelly Bean.

Unfortunately, the version of Android Jelly Bean is unknown at this point though it’ll either be Android 4.1 or Android 4.2 with the latter seeming more likely given that it’s the latest version.

What’s more, the version of Android that comes on board will apparently be skinned with HTC’s new HTC Sense 5. It’s unclear exactly what HTC Sense 5 will entail but it appears we only have a few weeks to go before we find out.

The HTC M7 is rumored to be debuting at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, the same place that HTC debuted the HTC One X last year. That event is also rumored to be the launching pad for the Samsung Galaxy S4, which will, like the Galaxy S3 to the HTC One X, be one of the HTC M7’s fiercest rivals.

And like the Galaxy S3, it appears that HTC might be branching out in other directions in terms of carriers. While the HTC One X was only available through AT&T, it seems the HTC M7 will at the very least arrive on Sprint and Verizon. It’s unclear if it will keep the same branding (M7 is likely a code name) but at this point, it’s a distinct possibility.

The report also claims that it could be the first HTC smartphone since the TouchPro 2 to hit the top four American carriers which means that AT&T and T-Mobile remain possibilities as well.
