How to Fix Bad iOS 6.1 Battery Life in 10 Seconds

It’s no surprise that iOS 6.1 battery life isn’t as good as it used to be for iPhone users, but some users can fix their bad battery life in about 10 seconds.

The iOS 6.1 update brought a bug along that can cause increased network activity and decreased battery life for users with an Exchange account. Exchange is a common email service used by companies large and small, so if you have work email and calendars on your iPhone, there is a good chance it is exchange.

After making a change to specific calendar events on an exchange calendar, the iPhone may start losing battery life quickly. N one instance we saw iOS 6.1 battery life on the iPhone 4S drop to 55% with just a few hours of actual usage.

Apple is working on a fix, likely in an iOS 6.1.2 update, but there is no estimated delivery date for the fix.

If you notice your iOS 6.1 battery life dropping dramatically these steps could fix the problem. This is not the perfect fix, and it may not help all users, but its worth a try, especially since it is so fast and easy to do.

On the iPhone tap on Settings and scroll down until you see Mail, Contacts and Calendars.

Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

On the next screen look for your exchange account. For most users this will be your work email account. In the example below it is Bluffton, but yours will likely be some form of your company’s name or your work email address.

Tap on your work email account.

On the next screen look for the Calendars toggle switch and switch it to Off.

Turn calendars off then back on.

Wait 10 seconds and then toggle the Calendars switch back to On.

This fix will not help everyone. If you cannot wait for Apple to release iOS 6.1.2, you may want to do a full restore as a new iPhone and then sync your apps and data back to the phone, but this is a more extreme step.

euh, you say toggle calendar on/off but show a red rectangle around contacts…

  2. Thanks! Worked like a charm.

  3. T Polk, did you do the calendar switch or contact?

  4. This article helped me with my issue with the battery of my phone, also on top of this, I downloaded an app from Cydia to check the status and health of my battery to keep me up to date.
