Published

In the next few weeks, we will see the launch of arguably the biggest Android smartphone of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S4. And while most of the attention has been lavished upon Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S3 successor, several other big name Android smartphones have either arrived or are set to touch down in the month of March.

Since December, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been, perhaps, the most talked about smartphone of 2013. However, it won’t be touching down on shelves in March, meaning, those who are in the market for a smartphone this month, particularly an Android smartphone, won’t be able to buy it. Instead, consumers will be faced with a host of other devices.

The task of picking a new Android smartphone, especially now that 2013 is well under way is a daunting task to say the least. The market is rife with competition including several devices from last year’s Android crop and now, several devices that were announced in 2013 and will be or already are on shelves to buy.

What this means is that the Android smartphone landscape, which had stayed pretty consistent in terms of the top tier smartphones, is now vastly different. And that could prove problematic for those trying to device on which device to buy in the month of March.

Last month, the list of the best Android smartphones on the market including some wily veterans including the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X+. However, the HTC One X+ has since been replaced by HTC’s latest generation flagship and the Galaxy S3, while still a solid smartphone, is set to be trumped by the Samsung Galaxy S4 on March 14th.

Their absence has left a void but it’s one that has been filled by two new Android smartphones that should be on the radar of those looking for a new Android smartphone this month.

That said, it’s time to take a look at what we consider to be the five best Android smartphones available for the month of March, 2013.

The Nexus 4 is Google's latest Nexus smartphone which means it offers vanilla Android, faster updates and easy customization. It also pairs those features with high-end hardware that will be suitable for not only average users, but for power users as well.

Even better, the unlocked model is extremely cheap through the Google Play Store while the T-Mobile Nexus 4 has seen its price drop numerous times in recent weeks.

The lgog (sprint optimus g) beats 3 of those phones in specs and benchmarks.in fact stock it destroys the note 2(snapdragon s4pro is why) and it is top stock score getter on quadrant. 7600+ .please be factual on your stories instead of your flawed opinion. Hi just to say that now the s4 is almost upon us and they doo do a 8core processor but in Britain they expect us to buy a 4 core overclocked 1, I wont be buying Samsung because of that fact! Palming us brits off with a lesser 1 cos they think we’ll run out and buy 1 anyway, well I’m not until we get the 8 core like most of the others and neither should you!

I don’t know where u are from but its the average person in the US that gets screwed out of the international (of course) or better soeced phones.FACT. american version of almost all phones are dual core or 1 gig and sgs3 is prime example. Also, s4pro is OLD now although its holders are the highest scoring benchmark phones.the LGOG(optimus g,UN which my thread in XDA was the reason its called the LGOG) IS THE top score getter on quadrant.the N4 would also cuz its same processor but the Lgog Kernel is superior. Now snapdragon 600 is king along with exnyos octa.remember peeps its NOT really 8 cores. Only 4 work at a time.and when the n5 megladon comes out with the sn800 it will b king!!!

I’m from rip-off-britain home of the goverment milked cash cow and if there is no benefit to 8 cores then Korea, home of samsung would be happy with the cheaper 4 core but they have the 8 core, so if its good enough for them its good enough for me and if every1 thought like that like sticking together then we would have consumer power!

And this is wat my mate reckons to the 4-core 8 core thing- He is wrong. The idea is that you have 4 heavy duty cores that use a lot of power and 4 lesser ones that hardly use any power. When you are playing a game or doing something that really requires the power it uses the heavy duty cores, but when you are doing normal tasks like browsing the net or menus etc. then it uses the smaller cores and saves a shitload of power so the end result is that the battery lasts longer. That’s the main point of it. It’s designed to save power yet be more powerful when its needed. (si)

Very close my friend. NEVER is there more than 4cores in use at one time. My main point is snapdragon s4pro/600 and solo 800 Ade superior to ex octa!! Also tegra technology is superior to both of em if they can get there act together to do with LTE.LOL. tame care. And some here at GBM are either inept at there job or paid off liers.. RAZR maxx beat out LGOG in fop & phones. Accept the battery that’s like saying a little leager is better than triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera. Jeez

I’m comparing specs. Verizon offers both Motorola Razr Maxx HD and Samsung GS3. Why isn’t the GS3 on here? Has same specs as Maxx HD but 2 GB of RAM. I know the GS4 is on its way, but I’m thinking of not waiting for HTC One or GS4 to come out and then to pay full price. The GS3 is down to $49 on Amazonwirleless. I am not a power user, but like speed. Wouldn’t an extra GB of RAM on the GS3 be better than a slightly better battery Maxx HD? The GNote is too large. The DNA is crippled to 16GB storage. Both are out for me. Between GS3 and Maxx HD on Verizon for currently available phones. And my upgrade is ready now. Gotta think the GS3 is still the better phone despite this column. Am I wrong?

FYI, about the ex octa 8 core chip by samsung going into some GS4’s. Sounds like it is pretty new technology. Something that only Samsung themselves will be taking advantage of – on apps provided by samsung. Most app vendors will not be taking advantage of the tech and their programs will run through the main 4 big processors. So, it does sound cool and may lead to a but of new capabilities in the future. But, in 2 years most of us will be on to the next new phones. And by then, if the 4 BIG and 4 little processor concept has real value it will be required for purchases at that time. From what I’ve read any phone with 4 processors is already beyond most apps today and will easily accommodate the demands. As for battery saving with the extra 4 little processors. I believe the S4’s without (the snapdragon sn600 quad-core instead) will be designed to better utilize the power. So, it is still unclear how much better the 4BIGx4little-core will actually perform in terms of a) power or b) battery life. In either case, you are getting a damn fast phone with the best chip available in your area on the market. I also believe the 4BIGx4little chip had some issues with US LTE frequencies. Maybe that was fluff to make us okay with not getting it.
