The iPad 3 remains a reasonable choice for consumers that are looking to get an iPad in the near future. While it’s getting older, it just turned a year old and it remains a solid alternative to the iPad 4 which features just a few upgrades over the iPad 3. And while Apple is rumored to be bring an iPad 5 to market this year, there still isn’t a date set in stone.

Best Buy has slashed the iPad 3 price down to its lowest point yet.

That means that the iPad 3 is still an attractive option despite its age and thanks to a sale at Best Buy, the iPad 3 just got a little more attractive, at least during the next two days.

The retailer is hosting an online sale ringing in the Spring and the iPad 3 is one of the benefactors of Best Buy’s sale. The sale, which has dropped the iPad 3 price to the lowest point that we’ve seen, offers up to $234 in discounts, something that simply cannot be found through other outlets. In fact, the prices are cheaper than Apple’s asking prices for refurbished versions of the iPad 3.

Best Buy has slashed all of the pricing on the iPad 3 which means that a 16GB iPad 3 Wi-Fi only can now be had for a mere $314 while the most expensive of the bunch, the 64GB iPad 3 with 4G LTE data has dropped from $779 to a mere $545.99. The sale doesn’t appear to be lasting for long with the retailer saying that it will only extend through Friday and Saturday. After the sale ends, the iPad will jump right back up to its normal pricing.

We don’t think the price drops have anything to do with the rumored iPad 5 launch, something that has been rumored for as early as April or as late as October. Apple still hasn’t sent out media invites for an event and with no rumored dates known, it could be that the iPad 3 and the iPad 4 are consumers only options for the better part of 2013.

That would be great news since i have been wanting an iPad for some time now. I think the main thing that turned me away was the price in the past especially when i already have a laptop. It would be interesting to see how the iPad 5 launch impacts the older products in the future.
