Next Motorola Phones Rumored to Be Unbreakable

Despite Corning’s coveted Gorilla Glass to help make modern glass displays a bit more rugged to the rough and tumbles of daily life, if you drop your phone at just the right angle physics will still triumph and you’ll likely end up with a cracked screen. Thankfully, it seems that Google-owned Motorola Mobility is working on new display technology and casing that will help make phones just that much more rugged.

In the company’s earnings call, Google co-founder and CEO Larry Page had alluded to the virtually indestructible phones now crafted by Motorola under Google.

10x1210ibn534moto“When you drop your phone, it shouldn’t shatter,” Page says.

And while Google seems to be more reserved about the X Phone, which is the remaining device in Motorola’s development pipeline before Google had much influence over the company it had acquired, Page appears much more enthusiastic about the more rugged materials.

BGR reports that Page is “pretty enthusiastic” as he has seen Motorola’s “real potential to invent new and better experiences.”

And Motorola Mobility is no stranger to choosing new materials and designs for its smartphones. The company’s Motorola RAZR, available as the Droid RAZR in the U.S. under wireless carrier Verizon Wireless, was the first device to bring back the impeccably slim RAZR styling as well as introduce a Kevlar backing, which Motorola says is a very strong material.

The company’s also been working on extending battery life as well through devices under the ‘MAXX’ branding strategy.

At this point, it’s unclear if Google’s more rugged Motorola devices will be launching this year or even when the launch timing would be, but it looks like Google is slowly shaping Motorola into its own vision. With HTC leading on high-end designs with the HTC One, Samsung innovating on the software front with the Galaxy S4, and now Motorola coming out with new designs and new experiences, it looks like there will be some choices in the Android camp.
