It appears that the rugged Samsung Galaxy S4 that a Samsung executive seemingly confirmed is indeed a real device and it appears that it will be joining another Galaxy S4, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, this summer after the initial Galaxy S4 release.
Since the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S4, we’ve seen two Samsung executives confirm two Samsung Galaxy S4 devices for arrival. The first, was the smaller Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini which has leaked several times and has been pegged for release in the summer, specifically in July. The other Galaxy S4 is the rugged Galaxy S4 that we heard confirmed just a few days ago. The device was said to be dust and water resistant, in line with the Sony Xperia Z which features similar characteristics.
Now, the Wall Street Journal has chimed in, albeit late, saying that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is indeed slated to arrive during the month of July and that the rugged Galaxy S4, known as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, will also be landing on shelves during the month of July as well. No specific date was given for either of them but we’ve heard that the Galaxy S4 may touch down between July 15th and July 21st. No word yet on the Galaxy S4 Active.
It’s unclear just where the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Active might land though Samsung has been known to keep products confined to specific regions of the world. So it could be that some areas don’t see either of the device, see only one, and in some cases, some regions may see both new Galaxy S4 devices launch.
Specs for the rugged Galaxy S4 Active remain unclear but the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has been rumored for quite some time. It’s expected to have a 4.3-inch display with 960 x 540 resolution, an 8MP camera, Android 4.2.2 with TouchWiz Nature UX, and quite possibly, a quad-core processor, potentially of the Exynos variety.
The Galaxy S4 Active could wind up featuring similar specifications to the larger Galaxy S4, just with a more protective design. It’s not clear at this point though.
The report also claims that Samsung is developing an 8-inch tablet for June.
