It appears that a Verizon HTC One may have been spotted running Android 4.2.2, just a day ahead of Verizon’s CTIA 2013 announcement in Las Vegas, an event that very well could be the carrier’s launching pad for the still unannounced device.
The Verizon HTC One, while heavily rumored and thought by one insider to be coming in the near future, remains unannounced and unofficial, firmly tucked away in the shadows. However, with Verizon set to make an announcement tomorrow, one that it will be streaming live, there is a possibility that we could see the elusive Verizon HTC One finally emerge from those shadows.
And while we have yet to see it in the flesh, it appears that at least one non-Verizon or HTC employee has as a member on the XDA-Developer Forums, courtesy of Droid-Life, claims that an HTC representative stopped by their Sprint store and whipped out a Verizon HTC One with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board.
It appears that the device has Notification toggles, which emerged with the leaked HTC Butterfly Android 4.2 ROM, and it appears that a launch could be close. Keep in mind, HTC is thought to be coming out with the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update in just a few days, possibly by the end of the month, and it could be that it times the arrival with the arrival of the Verizon HTC One.
Verizon, in theory, could announce the phone tomorrow at CTIA and release the phone a few days or weeks later with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board. Of course, with no sign of the device other than this supposed sighting, the chances of this theory proving correct are slim. Still, we’ve heard numerous times that the Verizon HTC One is still on the way so it could wind up working out this way.
It’s unclear if the HTC One on Verizon will feature anything different from the other models other than Verizon branding. In addition, AT&T still holds an exclusive on the 64GB model so it’s unclear if Verizon will get it.
Take this with a grain of salt, but with the event taking place tomorrow, this supposed sighting couldn’t have come at a better time.
