HTC One Android 4.2 Update: Carrier Expects Release in July

Published

on

The HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is expected to roll out in the near future though we expect the update to first hit unlocked, unbranded versions of the device. Carrier-branded devices should come next and we’ve learned that at least one carrier plans to get the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update out in late July.

Rumors in regards to the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update have been swirling as we head deeper into the summer and further away from its launch. The HTC One launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board and users have been wondering where their upgrade to Android 4.2 is. Originally, whispers indicated that HTC was prepared to release the software in mid-June. UK carrier Three also stirred the pot claiming that HTC pulled the update.

HTC refuted that, claiming that the update was still on the way, and that it might take a little bit longer. Just how long is anyone’s guess though it’s likely that it will emerge soon with the Verizon HTC One said to have Android 4.2 and the HTC One Nexus with Android 4.2 on the way this month.

However, the initial roll out will likely be for unbranded, unlocked devices. It typically is. Those who bought the HTC One on a carrier will likely have to wait while the carrier optimizes the update which for some, could mean a lengthy wait.

Australian carrier Telstra though seems to think that it will be getting the HTC One Android 4.2 update out in July with it listing a very specific target date of July 22nd. The carrier hasn’t yet received the software from HTC, a sign that an update is still a bit off, though it only expects one round of testing before rolling it out.

While this is just one carrier, it does give HTC One users a bit of insight into how close the Android 4.2 update for the HTC One is. Of course, the date is subject to change but considering the rumors, an HTC One Android 4.2 roll out for carriers doesn’t seem to be out of place.

Those in the United States should not expect their carriers to be as forthcoming as Telstra though it’s possible that we could see them roll out the updates around the same time, particularly Sprint who has been extremely diligent as of late.

I regret on my decision to go for the One over S4 even if Samsung supported my S2 for 2 years with all the firmware updates. HTC sucks

Twat. HTC has a better record of updating their hones than Samsuck. And HTC is faster at updating their updating their phones. Took HTC 3 month to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 took Samsung 6 months. You are a stupid little twat.

Thanks for your reply. First of all I am not D***Head fanboy like you. When you bark facts, at least seek help from the world around you – of course you can’t use your brain as you got only a skull with dung in it. The S4 comes out with 4.2.2 JB. S4 was available on market from the very first day and didn’t grin at customers by postponing dates every nanosecond. I have the same android running on my 2 year old Galaxy S2 and 1 month old HTC One. How many HTC customers can boast that their 2 year old gadget has got the latest firmware in it? Open your eyes, seek the help of someone who has got commonsense as you won’t be able to make it out yourself. Yours is a manufacturing defect that can’t be repaired or replaced under warranty or insurance.
