HTC One & HTC One X Android 4.2 Updates Expected in July

Published

on

The HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and the rumored HTC One X Android 4.2 update are both expected in July, at least for devices on French carrier SFR which reportedly shows expected July release dates for both the HTC One and the HTC One X.

Rumors have swirled lately about the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update with whispers suggesting that the update is close. HTC recently confirmed the update though it did not confirm a date only saying that it would be arriving in the future, possibly a little later than owners initially thought. We have seen one carrier, Australia’s Telstra, suggest that it’s expecting the update in July, and now, we have another carrier joining the mix.

The HTC One Android 4.2 update has been pegged for July by French carrier SFR.

According to evidence procured by French site Club SFR Smartphones, an SFR centric site, it appears that the French carrier expects to roll out not only the HTC One Android 4.2 update in July but the HTC One X Android 4.2 update as well. The HTC One X update has been rumored to be close and it’s expected to not only bring Android 4.2 but the new Sense 5 as well.

The schedule does not suggest a date for the update though Telstra has said that it expects the software to roll out on July 22nd. What this means is that the updates could start hitting carriers in July while hitting unbranded versions of the device sooner. With June coming to a close, it’s possible that HTC will miss the month, but with five days left, anything is possible.

Unbranded versions of HTC’s devices typically get the updates ahead of carrier-branded models and so it wouldn’t be surprising to see HTC roll the software out in late June or early July to both the HTC One and HTC One X. Of course, none of this is set in stone and the information comes from carriers, not HTC. HTC has the final word on the timing of software updates.

Should these dates hold up, HTC One and HTC One X owners in the United States could see the software roll out this summer, though AT&T HTC One X owners should start tempering their expectations. AT&T was extremely slow to Android 4.1 for the HTC One X and it would not be surprising to see it be late with Android 4.2.

For what it’s worth, HTC leakster @LlabTooFeR suggests that tomorrow could be the HTC One Android 4.2 release date, given that the HTC One Nexus is expected to arrive with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board.
