Moto X Leaks Flow as Release Approaches
Google and Motorola continue to be secretive about the Moto X but it appears that rumors are taking much of the mystique away as new leaks, including a Moto X video, reveal much of what the company has planned for its customizable smartphone.
Earlier this year, Motorola announced its Moto X smartphone, a device that it says will be coming with smart software and will be assembled at a plant in Texas as opposed to one outside of the United States. The company has also begin promoting the device as the first smartphone that consumers can design themselves, taking out ads in major publications ahead of the July 4th holiday. And while the company seems keen on promoting the Moto X, it’s still very much shrouded in secrecy. At least officially.
Moto X rumors have been heating up in recent weeks with rumors pointing to a device that features a large display, dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android Jelly Bean. Leaked photos have also shown off plastic colored casings that likely have to do with the device’s customization and a photo depicted the device’s cheap looks.
The leaks have continued today with the device seemingly being captured on video at a private event and more details leaking out courtesy of Taylor Wimberly, formerly of Android and Me.
According to Wimberly, the Moto X will come with several casing styles with plastic and wood likely be available at launch. Other materials like metal and fabric are supposedly going to come at a later date.
The device is rumored to be launching on August 23rd and Wimberly claims that AT&T will have some sort of exclusive over the device though it’s unclear what that exclusive might be. The device is expected to land on AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and Verizon at the very least.
The video shot by Robert Scoble, and slowed down by AndroidNext, doesn’t reveal much but it does show a device that lines up with what we saw yesterday in a leaked photo, a black matte back with a camera situated in the center of the device.
The Moto X is expected to be joined on three other Motorola devices including the Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX and Droid Mini though those devices still don’t have rumored launch dates.
