iOS 7.0.3 Download Issues Plague iPhone & iPad Users

Published

on

Today’s iOS 7.0.3 update, which brings a number of improvements and fixes for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners, isn’t available Over-the-Air for many iPhone and iPad users, forcing them to instead update through iTunes.

Earlier today, Apple started rolling out the iOS 7.0.3 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the third update to the company’s iOS 7 software that rolled out last month after a lengthy beta period. The latest update is a massive bug fix update, aimed at fixing some of the notorious issues that have emerged over the past few weeks on iPhones, iPads and iPod touches across the globe.

In particular, the device aims at fixing the iMessage issue that has plagued iPhone users and a problem with profiles and filters on iPads, features that teachers depend on inside of the classroom. The update also, among other things, brings iCloud Keychain along with it. Many users were able to download the iOS 7.0.3 update right when Apple released it, however, others have encountered issues with the download process, specifically, when trying to update the software Over-the-Air.

iOS-7.0.3-Update-Released

Many iPhone owners, including those on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s, have been able to download and install the update Over-the-Air. However, several iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad 2 owners that we’ve talked to are saying that the iOS 7.0.3 update is not available to download OTA. Our own iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are still unable to install the iOS 7.0.3 update Over-the-Air.

It’s not clear what’s going on but there doesn’t appear to be any temporary fix for the problem. Instead, owners are simply going to have to go old fashioned and update through iTunes by directly plugging into a computer. For those that don’t have access, that likely means waiting a few hours in order to gain access. For others, it may prove even more difficult.

By no means is this on the same level as the iOS 7 download issues that plagued iPhone and iPad owners back when iOS 7 was first released but it’s an annoying issue nonetheless and one that has frustrated those that aren’t near a computer.

Those who are thinking about installing an iOS 7 jailbreak may want to hold off on the update, at least for now, as jailbreak developers have not yet given the go ahead.

My mom updated her phone and now she can’t access it; there’s only a picture of the iTunes app and a charger below it?
It’s been like this since last night…

I still don’t receive texts from other iphone users when iMessage is turned off. Not cool, because I don’t have a data plan…

I was forced to restore (third time now, started with IOS 7.0). This time I have to sync my phone with itunes several different times because after syncing three apps, it will fail. I’ve literally synced my phone 10+ times to get all my apps to sync on my phone. I can’t get my music to sync at all.

Mine also. Downloaded songs to my ipad, synced with my library, and the ipad won’t play them. Cuts my music off half way or won’t even play a song, yet it’s registered on my computer. Sure hope they fix this …..

Mine started the update this morning and is stuck on the iTunes icon with the charger under it. I’ve plugged it in and it’s been trying to restore my phone for hours and keeps shutting off. Also told me I was losing all my media, data, etc.

I had the exact same thing happen when I went to update my iPhone 4s to iOS 7.0.3.

First, the update failed (and this was being done through iTunes on my computer). After having taken what seemed forever to complete, I received this error message on the computer that said something about “this iPhone cannot be updated….” Then, my computer told me that my iPhone had to be “Restored” to the factory settings and that the iPhone would lose everything.

Luckily, I had just done a full backup of my phone first on my computer before I went to update the OS, so once the factory “Restore” was finished, I went ahead and restored the phone from my latest backup rather than use the “brand new iPhone” option. I was sweating bullets the entire time though and was extremely frustrated at how long all this took just to update my iPhone. It was a drag.

However, my iPhone 4s is working fine again. I’m glad that those backups really do work!

Also forced to restore, and even though I had backed up my phone before doing it, I lost all my apps. The data seems to be there, as when I re-install apps (one at a time) the data inside the apps is still there. Phone has locked up on me a few times since. Usually happens during messaging. Let me have 7.0.2 back.

Thank you for posting this. I have spent days trying to work out how to reinstall all my sons apps that contained a year of all his school work needless to say he was devastated to lose everything he had worked on and many tears had been shed. I had almost given up on getting anything back when I stumbled upon your post. His iPad would not restore to a previous back up but I reinstalled the apps one by one as you had and all his work and data was still there. THANK-YOU!!!! Jones5

Apple’s lost the plot!!!! After numerous attempts to get my music correctly sync’d after installing iOS7 (where eventually i succeeded) I reluctantly updated to 7.0.3. All seemed ok but 20 minutes into a gym session yesterday with music on shuffle, it started activating voice control on it’s own and even dialling people randomly from my phone book!!! …. even after 3 reboots it still did it. I have zero confidence on the phone now …. after years with Apple it’s time to change

My download is stuck. It has been saying it has less than a minute left now for over 2 days.
Please fix this apple or I will never purchase another apple product in my lifetime.

Same here, iPhone 4s, the 7.0.3 update fails after it says it’s ‘Preparing’. Also, I noticed that none of my apps will finish updating, the download completes, and it fails while trying to install the update. Also, all new app downloads are failing to either finish downloading or installing….

I’m very happy that I just finally got onto this Apple bandwagon just when it’s starting to fall apart… I have 8gigs free on the phone, so no idea why it won’t update anythning or download any new apps….

And my iTunes also stopped working recently and I haven’t been able to figure out how to get it to stop crashing either… So I guess I’m just SOL, and stuck with a POS phone and useless OS for the next 2 years…

    Apple sucks!

Oh, and I also pay for iTunes Match, but after spending a few hours last weekend trying unscuccessfully to get iTunes working, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’l NEVER be able to add more music to my account. I assume that the buggy frustratingly incomprehensible GUI of iTUNES is the ONLY way to add music to my iTunes Match service????!?!?! Perfect…

Also, neither of my 2 apple tv’s will connect to my itunes match, so those were a big waste of money too.

One more complaint! I also bought an Airplay speaker, and it’s the ONLY device on my entire network that won’t stay connected and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in again every few hours to keep it online!!!

None of their technology Just Works, and is there even anyone to ask for help or to complain to?? What a racket!

Apple and their “rule the earth” business model sucks…between googles search engine and android iOS, microshaft, and Apple’s everything WE are all DOOMED! Going to a 90’s flip phone, wiping all my drives and loading unix based os’s exclusively! Oh, for the good ‘ol days when you actually had control of your devices….sheesh!
