Xfinity TV Go iOS App is Now Live for Live TV Streaming
We posted last week this was coming, and now it is available. Comcast has just released the iOS Xfinity TV Go App which allows Comcast customers to live stream content anywhere they can find a WiFi connection. Actually the Xfinity TV Go App is a revamping and rebranding of the Xfinity TV Player App. With the new App, like the old, you can access your OnDemand content, but more importantly you can now live stream any of the 35 channels made available.
UPDATE: The App is now available for Android devices as well.
With an early focus on Sports, News, and kids offerings the channels include: BBC World News, beIN Sport, beIN Sport Español, Big Ten Network, CNBC, CNN, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, ESPN Deportes, ESPN News, ESPNU, FOX Business Channel, FOX News Channel, FOX Sports 1, FX, FXX, Golf Channel, HLN, MSNBC, Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, NBC Sports Network, Pac-12 and its six regional networks, and Willow TV. Comcast says it will be adding more channels in the future. Note that some of those channels have to be a part of your existing Comcast package in order to stream them to your device.
I just downloaded the App and gave it a whirl and it works as advertised. Tuning into ESPN, I was able to watch current content. When a commercial came up music and a slide show popped up in one break and commercial content in the next. I assume we’ll see more commercial content at some point in the near future.
For those who are looking for an additional screen in your house, or to hook into your subscription when you are on the road, the Xfinity TV Go App offers a nice alternative to existing streaming services like Slingbox, and also to Comcast’s existing AnyPlay service which is only available to stream in your home. Both of the above examples require additional hardware.
If you have the Xfinity TV Player App already installed on an iOS device, the new changes and App title change will take place when you update the App. Or you can download it at this link. Note that you need to be at least 17 years old to download the App and parents have the ability to set restrictions.
