Apple Black Friday 2013: What to Expect from Apple and Retailers

Published

on

Apple Black Friday Deals for 2013 will be at the front of many consumers’ minds as they search for Black Friday deals on the iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPhone 5s, new MacBook Pro Retina and MacBook Air notebooks

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, which this year falls on November 29th. It is a major shopping event where many retailers offer online and in store deals with deep discounts to lure shoppers into lines and into stores to buy, buy, buy.

This year the Black Friday 2013 deals are kicking off even earlier than before with many retailers planning in store deals that start before Thanksgiving dinner is over. While we don’t expect Apple Stores to open on Thanksgiving, the Apple Black Friday 2013 Deals will likely start well ahead of Black Friday.

Apple Black Friday deals are very predictable, and aren’t going to get many shoppers in lines early outside of an Apple Store. At least not to the same degree as a new iPhone or iPad mini 2 release might.

The Gotta Be Mobile team spent the last seven years covering Black Friday deals, trends and sales, with a focus on finding the best Black Friday deals online and in stores. While the Apple Black Friday 2013 deals are not announced yet, we have a very good idea what you can expect from Apple and from third-party retailers where the best Apple deals will be this season.

Read through our Apple Black Friday 2013 predictions below to see where to look and what types of deals are most likely this year. The wild card is the iPhone 5s and the discontinued iPhone 5, which could deliver surprise savings at some stores with a new contract.

Expect some of the Apple Black Friday 2013 deals to arrive online from third-party retailers as soon as next week, as online stores attempt to get more cash from shoppers by jump starting the deals and offers.

iPod touch Black Friday Deals

The iPod touch is one of the most popular Apple Black Friday deals around. Often the discount comes in the form of a store gift card for a third-party retailer, rather than from Apple.

Look for Apple to take $21 off the iPod touch this year. This could drop the iPod touch without a camera down to just over $200. The iPod touch with a camera from Apple could drop to about $280. This is a nice drop from Apple, but there are bound to be better deals.

Users who want to save more should look for iPod touch Black Friday deals that offer a few dollars off the iPod touch and a $50 gift card. We anticipate deals like this from  Meijer, Walmart, Best Buy and Target.

Apple offers a cheaper iPod touch with no camera this year, and the iPod touch is a year old so we could see some deeper discounts from retailers.

The iPod Nano may see deals with a $20 to $50 gift card at Best Buy, Target, Walmart and others.

All of the iPod Black Friday deals will go very fast in stores so unless you plan to camp out for hours, you’re better off ordering online when these deals go live. Most will be available online at 12:01 AM Friday morning.

iPad Air, iPad mini 2 and iPad Black Friday Deals

The iPad Air and iPad mini 2 are just announced, but we should see a few deals on these products if Apple is able to keep both in stock. This isn’t likely an issue for the iPad Air, but it could be for the iPad mini 2 which adds a Retina display to the smaller iPad. The iPad mini 2 release date may arrive just a week ahead of Black Friday.

The iPad Air is new, but we could still see some Black Friday deals.

The iPad Air is new, but we could still see some Black Friday deals.

The iPad Air should see a $41 discount from Apple dropping the price down to $458 for the 16GB model. The same discount should apply to the higher capacity models and the LTE models, but deal hunters should look to retailers for bigger savings.

Best Buy and Target will likely offer $50 to $60 off the iPad Air with a gift certificate combo. This is a nice deal, but bigger savings are likely for the iPad 4 and iPad 3.

Look for retailers to offer up the iPad 4 with Retina Display as the premier iPad Black Friday deal of 2013. This model is no longer sold at Apple Stores, but it is a good deal for users who may see the price drop as much as $70 to $100 at some retailers.

Apple already offers a refurbished iPad 4 for $379, which is worth buying now and avoiding the lines and hassles of Black Friday.

iPad mini 2 with Retina Display deals may be missing, but some retailers might offer up stock of this hard to find gadget.

iPad mini 2 with Retina Display deals may be missing, but some retailers might offer up stock of this hard to find gadget.

The iPad 2 is still sold on Apple for $399 new, and last year we saw discounts of $100 on this iPad at Meijer, and $75 from Walmart. We should see similar offers again this year.

The iPad mini is now $299 on Apple, which could bring the Apple Store price down $30 to $40. There is nothing to go on from last year, so it’s hard to predict what Apple will offer on this device.

We don’t expect Apple will offer a discount on the new iPad mini 2 with Retina Display, which is coming out later this month and is likely to be in short supply.

Even with a new lower price, look for Best Buy, Target, Walmart and other retailers to cut the price further and offer a discount to draw shoppers in. The iPad mini is already as low as $249 on Apple as a refurbished iPad, which again is a better buy than waiting in lines on Black Friday.

We may even see some iPad 3 deals around, but it’s going to be worth the higher price to look at a refurbished iPad 4.

iPhone Black Friday Deals

The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c could make an appearance as part of Black Friday iPhone deals, but it’s not clear how much Apple will allow retailers to discount these devices. The company relaxed price controls, allowing third-parties to sell the iPhone 5c for as low as $49 and knock $10 to $20 off the iPhone 5s.

It’s not clear what Black Friday will bring under these more relaxed pricing rules or if the iPhone 5 will make a resurgence at big-box retailers this year.

Ultimately, we’ll be sharing more about what iPhone Black Friday deals you can find as leaks arrive.

MacBook Air Black Friday Deals

Apple will likely offer $101 off the MacBook Air, but that won’t be the best deal available. Apple is already offering up to $200 off the Macbook Air from June 2013 in the refurbished store. This comes with a full 12-month warranty like a new Macbook Air. Users can buy a refurbished MacBook Air 13-inch or 11-inch right now at these lower prices.

MacBook Air Black Friday deals should cut $100 or more off the price of the new MacBook Air in 2013.

MacBook Air Black Friday deals should cut $100 or more off the price of the new MacBook Air in 2013.

The current MacBook Air notebooks with Intel Haswell processors and very long battery life should see price cuts at Amazon, MacMall and Best Buy between $60 and $180 off.

The biggest MacBook Air Black Friday deals will come from retailers selling last year’s models with savings of $200 to $300 off.

MacBook Pro Retina Black Friday Deals

Apple’s Macbook Pro Retina Black Friday deals will also cut $101 off the new MacBook Pro Retina that Apple just introduced, assuming Apple keeps the deals the same as previous years.

The new MacBook Pro Retina Black Friday deals should offer savings of up to $101 in 2013.

The new MacBook Pro Retina Black Friday deals should offer savings of up to $101 in 2013.

Third party retailers may offer deals on last year’s models with deeper discounts, but don’t expect to see super-deep discounts on these Apple notebooks yet.

Apps and iTunes Gift Card Black Friday Deals

Another big set of Black Friday deals arrive in the form of App deals and iTunes gift card deals. Black Friday App deals often chop 20% to 70% off the prices of popular apps for a very short time period. These deals could start a week or so ahead of Black Friday.

Last year we saw deep discounts on EA iPad and iPhone games, deals from independent games as well as apps for productivity all around.

iTunes Gift card deals are a great way to stock up and save big on movies, music and apps year round. Look for deals which offer as much as 20% off the face value of iTunes gift cards during Black Friday 2013. Sam’s Club and Best Buy will offer the best deals, but other retailers will likely join in.
