How to Get Your Xbox One to Turn On Your Television

There’s nothing more arbitrary than having to find a remote before enjoying your favorite television shows, games and movies on your Xbox One. Luckily, Xbox One users who have the included Kinect 2 sensor plugged-in can just have their console control their television automatically.

Here’s how to get your Xbox One to turn on your television and more.

Turn on your Xbox One. You can do this by saying “Xbox, On” if you’ve already configured the Kinect 2 sensor but haven’t set it up to work with your television completely. You can also slide your finger across the round Xbox One button on your controller or on the console itself. Of course, you’ll need to turn your television on manually for right now.

This must depend on the model of television, the only command sent to my Vizio was for mute. After that it said the Xbox was configured to my TV, no other actions required.

My xbox one doesnt switch on via controller when it had been switched off from source. Unlike the 360 which turned on the 360 via controller.

Hey just so you know even if your tv is not on the list you can select “I don’t see my brand” and then spell the brand you have and you can set up your tv. I have an Insignia brand tv and I was able to set it up with full functionality, power on/off, mute, volume up/down, etc. It’s great!
