Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat Release Window Pops Up, Again Adam Mills01/13/2014 After Gotta Be Mobile reported on its disappearance last week, French carrier SFR has mysteriously updated its January update schedule with two important additions, a Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and a Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Both are late additions though the reemergence of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat release window is more intriguing given that it has yet to roll out to users. Several weeks ago, French carrier SFR claimed that it would be rolling out both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates in late January or early February. The carrier is typically weeks behind the international versions when it comes to updates so the timing suggested potential release windows for the start of the initial roll outs.Advertisement Today, as if on cue, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update started rolling out. The roll out is limited to Poland at the moment but given its presence, there is a very good chance that SFR will be able to stick to its word. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update is, despite a leak, still missing. Fortunately, SFR claims that the update will still be rolling out sometime in January or February.Advertisement Last week, SFR released a January schedule for its Android updates. Surprisingly, both the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 were left off. We reported on the absences and reached out to SFR PR. And while the PR team failed to get back to us, today we saw the carrier update its January schedule with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates.Advertisement The Samsung Galaxy S4 update, like the Galaxy Note 3’s, is listed as arriving in January or February. Last week, we heard that Samsung was aiming for February or March though it appears that SFR is still confident in its window. Of course, software release dates are always subject to change and that could be the case at SFR and elsewhere. Still, this is a good sign for Galaxy S4 owners waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat. Advertisement While the update isn’t going to be a massive overhaul to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, it looks like the Android 4.4 KitKat updates for both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 will be worthwhile as they deliver a few likeable features. They will not, however, be the large sweeping TouchWiz enhanced updates that have hit devices in the past. These two updates should be followed closely by the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4 KitKat updates, both of which are rumored for April. April is, of course, the month that is rumored include the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date, a device that is heavily rumored to be coming with Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.
