HTC M8 Leak Points to Fingerprint Tech on Back

Published

on

Following up the successful flagship HTC One smartphone of 2013, HTC is planning to release a new device that for now, is being called the HTC M8. Leaks and rumors have suggested multiple different names from the HTC Two, HTC One+, and more, but it’s all just rumors.

Another thing we’ve yet to officially learn is what all HTC has in store for the new smartphone aimed at launching in the middle of February. A date set to beat the competition to market. The HTC M8 specs have leaked time and time again, and are all but confirmed at this point, but what still remains unclear is if they’ll add a fingerprint scanner to the new device to take on the iPhone 5S.

First HTC M8 leaks suggested a fingerprint scanner would be on the top of the rear phone frame, above the camera, but since those original leaks the fingerprint reader rumors have all but died. All the leaks over the past few months mention a larger 5-inch 1080p display, a faster 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a bigger 2,900 mAh battery, and even a micro-SD slot, but no mention of a fingerprint reader.

Today though, as you see above, we’ve spotted some images of a “factory OEM” case for the new HTC Two (M8) and the circle above the camera has returned, suggesting it will indeed have a fingerprint scanner for security, quick launching apps, and to take on the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S5 later this year.

Reports have confirmed a new two-stage LED flash on the rear for better lighting with photography, which is once more confirmed by the large cut out aside from the camera in the leaked case above, which was also confirmed in recent 3D models that leaked.

At this point it appears that HTC will be dropping a slightly improved HTC One+ (or HTC Two) with improved specs across the board, but nothing Earth shattering, and it will employ a fingerprint scanner on the top similar to the HTC One Max. The 5-inch flagship smartphone is still rumored to arrive in March after a late February announcement.

Thanks for the tip, Bob!

You’re welcome! I hope that’s a second camera and not a dumb scanner..
