iOS 7.0.5 Jailbreak: Steer Clear for Now (Update)

Published

on

Apple suddenly released iOS 7.0.5 today, but it’s meant for only a specific group of users, namely folks in China, as well as some regions of Europe. The update is reportedly hitting the US for unlocked owners as well, and it’s only meant for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

However, that doesn’t mean that this update doesn’t affect jailbreaks. Jailbreak developer MuscleNerd is telling folks to wait on updating to iOS 7.0.5 for the time being. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Apple has patched up the exploit used to gain jailbreak access, so MuscleNerd’s words are merely just a tale of caution while the Evad3rs dev team comb through the change logs to see if the exploit has been patched.

UPDATE: Jailbreak developer i0n1c has confirmed that iOS 7.0.5 is jailbreak-friendly.

At this point, no one knows if the update patched up the jailbreak, but many folks are saying that they’d be surprised if iOS 7.0.5 patched it up, noting that Apple will wait until iOS 7.1 is released before filling up any security holes that allow a jailbreak. However, one user claims he was able to jailbreak iOS 7.0.5, but we’ll be on the cautious side until we here an official word from devs.

The update won’t do much for iPhone users in the US anyway, as many of the changes in iOS 7.0.5 are merely just fixes to network errors on Chinese carriers, so folks in the US really aren’t missing much with this update in the first place.

The next update that all US iOS device owners will receive will most likely be iOS 7.1, which is expected to arrive either next month or in March. The update will be a major one, arriving with tons of fixes and improvements, as well as new features that we’ve already been introduced to, thanks to the past four betas that we’ve played around with.

We’ll most likely see two more iOS 7 betas before the final release gets pushed out, both of which will come with even more fixes and improvements, although we’re not quite sure what Apple has up its sleeves for beta 5 and 6. One thing is for certain, though, an iOS 7.1 jailbreak won’t happen right off the bat.
