The successor to the popular and original HTC One, codenamed the HTC M8, is finally official as the company this morning confirmed March 25th will be the announcement date.

After months and months of silence following leaks and reports, today HTC started sending out press invites, then confirmed on Twitter that on March 25th the “Best is about to get better” which we all know is the followup to the HTC One of 2013. The new smartphone will be announced at two events on the 25th in London, and New York City.

While this is good news to finally hear from HTC themselves, rather than various online sources and leaksters, it’s still coming essentially one month later than Samsung’s Galaxy S5, which will be revealed on Monday February 25th, in Spain for Mobile World Congress.

Following countless leaks and rumors, this will most likely be an event for the HTC M8, which will replace the original HTC One from last year. With reports of a similar yet slightly tweaked design, on screen navigation keys and buttons, and even dual-cameras, HTC has a lot to unveil.

However, with Samsung’s Galaxy S5 expected to launch in April throughout the globe, we could see HTC’s latest smartphone arrive during the same April time-frame, most likely near the end of the month. Essentially meaning the new HTC One and Samsung’s latest Galaxy S5 smartphone could collide with April release dates.

As a reminder the HTC M8 is rumored to sport a bigger 5-inch 1080p HD display, a faster quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and finally include a micro-SD slot for storage expansion, dual cameras, possibly a fingerprint sensor, and the same awesome front facing speakers. We’ll naturally be seeing a new Android 4.4 KitKat software covered in Sense UI 6.0, and will report back once a release date is revealed.
