LG and its carrier partners in the United States still aren’t talking about the Android 4.4 KitKat update but that doesn’t mean that it’s not coming. In fact, thanks to UA Profile on Sprint’s website, we know that at least one carrier is working on getting the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update ready for arrival in the United States.
The LG G2 is the company’s flagship smartphone in the United States and around the world and it competes against the likes of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3. Samsung’s devices currently have a leg up, at least in the Android update department, because Android 4.4 KitKat has landed for those devices in the United States and elsewhere.
LG is not know for its speedy Android updates and is often left in the dust by its counterparts. From the looks of things, that may not happen with the LG G2, at least not in the United States.
One of our readers pointed us in the direction of a User Agent Profile for the Sprint LG G2 on Sprint’s website. While most of the UA Prof is boring, there is one piece of information that is significant for not only Sprint LG G2 owners but owners of the other LG G2 models inside of the United States.
Sprint’s LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat is now confirmed thanks to this UA Prof. In fact, it’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat that will be landing for the Sprint model at some point in the future. The UA Prof unfortunately does not confirm a release date for Sprint users.
This is a good sign for all LG G2 models in the U.S. because if Sprint is working on an Android 4.4 KitKat update for the device, the other carriers likely are as well. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon have not confirmed LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades and they aren’t expected to, at least not until the update starts rolling out. U.S. carriers almost never confirm updates ahead of schedule and there is no reason to think that they will do so here.
It’s also not entirely clear what will be on board the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update. Samsung’s Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades have been mild in that they don’t introduce any big changes or revolutionary features. Instead, they have stuck to the basics that Android 4.4 KitKat itself provides. We do expect American carriers to put their own spin on the LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update and offer up their own fixes and enhancements.
As for the rest of the world, we know that French carrier SFR plans to put the update out in late February and according to a new video from LG, it looks like the United Kingdom will get the update in March.
Thanks again, G!
