5 Best Tablets [March, 2014]

Choosing a new tablet can be an extremely difficult task especially for those that may not be caught up on the latest devices. Here, in an effort to help those people, we take a look at the slates we consider to be the five best tablet options on the market for the month of March, 2014.

Over the past year, we have seen some exciting tablets come to the market. Last year, we saw the usual companies jockey for position. Early in the year, it was Google that released its Nexus 7, an exciting sequel to its original Nexus 7 tablet that made waves in 2012. Later in the year, Amazon joined the fray with its new Kindle Fire HDX lineup that replaced its Kindle Fire HD variants from the year before.

And then, just before the holiday shopping season, Apple pulled the curtain down from around its brand new iPads which include the iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina Display. Those were, and still are, some of the most visible tablet options but they aren’t the only slates vying for attention in 2014.

Last year, we saw the arrival of Microsoft’s brand new Surface 2 tablets. We saw Google add to its tablet offerings with the new LG G Pad 8.3, a device that was originally thought to be a Nexus 8. And at CES 2014, Samsung announced brand new Galaxy TabPRO and Galaxy NotePRO slates that have probably caught the eye of many consumers.

Those in the hunt for a new tablet aren’t hurting for options but many consumers likely find themselves having a hard time picking through the absurd amount of choices.

We want to help narrow things down for those who are looking for a brand new tablet in the month of March. Here, we offer up the devices that we think constitute the best tablets this month.

iPad Air

iPad Air

We like the iPad Air, a lot. Apple's new 9.7-inch slate is probably the best iPad ever made and it's certainly in the discussion for the best tablet ever made. It's that good.

Apple has trimmed the design of its larger iPad and the thinner bezels make it much more portable than any of the 9.7-inch tablets before it, iPad 4 included. The company also outfitted the brand new iPad with a 64-bit A7 processor with an M7 motion coprocessor making it more powerful than ever before.

The iPad Air isn't cheap but it's a device that will last users several years as Apple almost always offers three years of software support before cutting devices off.
