Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Update: What Not to Expect

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update has been rolling out since January but it has yet to roll out for the Verizon Galaxy Note 3. While we wait for the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update to arrive, we want to make some predictions and offer up our own expectations ahead of its release.

All the way back in January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update. The update came without warning and it surprised a lot of people because Samsung typically rolls out major Android updates to its latest Galaxy S before pushing them to its latest and greatest Galaxy Note.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat roll out started off slowly but by mid-February, it was available inside the United States thanks to Sprint and U.S. Cellular. Both carriers pushed out their respective updates around the same time they delivered their Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat upgrades.

Since then, we’ve seen the update land for the AT&T Galaxy Note 3 and the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3, which means that there is only one more Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update left inside the United States.

Verizon Galaxy Note 3 owners are still waiting for their update to arrive and they are still without any official details as we drift further into April and further away from the update’s January start date.

While we sit around and wait for Verizon to deliver its Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.4 KitKat update, we want to help set the stage for Galaxy Note 3 users. We’ve already taken a look at what we expect from Verizon and its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and release and today, we want to take a look at what we don’t expect to see from Verizon down the road.

Verizon to Skip Android 4.4 KitKat

For seasoned Android veterans, these will be no-brainers. However, we aren’t trying to set the stage for those people. Instead, we’re setting the stage for Verizon Galaxy Note 3 owners who are new to the Android roll out process. After all, Android 4.4 KitKat represents the first major Android update for the Galaxy Note 3.

Over the past few months we’ve been asked, numerous times, about the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update and whether or not it will be coming. While we haven’t laid eyes on the update inside of Verizon’s labs, we can say, with great certainty, that the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is inbound.

Galaxy Note 3 vs iPad mini 2-5

Galaxy Note 3 owners should not expect Verizon to skip Android 4.4. We’ve already seen all four of its rivals push out the update without problems. We’ve also been monitoring the situation outside the U.S. and we haven’t seen any hiccups besides an initial one that was already handled.

We haven’t heard any whispers about the carrier skipping to another version of Android. Typically, if something is amiss, we heard about it before hand.

Several weeks ago, we heard that the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update was in internal testing. If Verizon is testing the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update then it’s safe to assume that it’s testing the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update as well. Verizon is known for taking its time in internal testing so this delay comes as no surprise.

Verizon is almost always behind the curve so Galaxy Note 3 owners need to just sit back and remain patient.

Weekend Release

Do not expect the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update to get released over the weekend. Again, this might seem like a given for some Galaxy Note 3 owners but it’s not going to be as obvious for those that have made the move to Android for the first time.

Like iOS updates, Android updates are typically pushed out during the week. Verizon’s release dates are unpredictable but the carrier historically has rolled out its update during the working week. This gives it publicity and it ensures that its engineers can go home and sleep over the weekend.

Point is, Galaxy Note 3 owners looking for Verizon’s Android 4.4 KitKat update can stop checking for the update over the weekend. We’d bet a million dollars on a weekday release.

Unfamiliar Roll Out Process

Don’t expect anything different when it comes to the way that Verizon rolls its Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat out. The carrier has used the same procedure update after update and there is no reason to believe that it will change things up here with the Galaxy Note 3’s Android 4.4 KitKat update.

So what does this mean? Well, it means that Samsung and Verizon will likely update their respective software support pages with an update made available Over-the-Air on or around the same day.

Verizon’s Over-the-Air updates typically take a few days to complete which means that some Galaxy Note 3 owners may not see the update on the first day of availability. We expect most Galaxy Note 3 owners to get the update within the first couple of days though. Just don’t expect to know when.

Verizon’s OTA roll outs are completely random which means that there will be no way to pinpoint the next batch of updates. Again, we’d be surprised if this was a lengthy roll out but stranger things have happened.

Roll Out Issues

Roll out issues plagued Samsung’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean deployment. Samsung, Sprint and U.S. Cellular were forced to halt their Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat updates. We even saw Samsung UK stop its Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 roll out due to issues. It’s hard to see the same thing happening here with the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 roll out.

Android 4.4 KitKat is a much smaller update than Android 4.3 (Android 4.3 came with Galaxy Gear support, Samsung Knox and other features) and Verizon has had ample time in the lab. We also haven’t seen any major problems spring up during roll outs in the United States or elsewhere. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. So, we don’t expect anything other than a smooth upgrade process for Verizon Galaxy Note 3 owners.

Flawless Upgrade

Do not expect the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update to fix every single issue on board the Galaxy Note 3 right now with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. We almost always see issues linger after major Android updates. Verizon will try and fix as much as it can but it would be close to impossible to fix everything for everyone.

Galaxy Note 3 owners shouldn’t expect the Android 4.4 KitKat update itself to be flawless either. Software update’s are never perfect, even after a carrier pokes and prods them for several months. In an effort to minimize problems, Galaxy Note 3 users should ensure that their apps are updated, that they’re on a stable version of software, and that precious files are backed up.

Funny you say we need to relax, but should we really be relaxing? Verizon iPhone users get their updates timely yet we can’t? Maybe we NEED to complain MORE to encourage Verizon to quit screwing us over. 2¢

Really!!! My 64 gb sd card crashed and I have g.p.s. issues and I had to get a warranty replacement on the galaxy note 3. In the first 30 days. Relax! Well, if I lose any more business someone else will need to relax. 165 a month is to much to pay for messed up service. And …. No one can tell me what this icon is that showed up on my s.d. card.

No kidding! I’m trying to think if I have ever read anything of merit from these useless articles. Right up there with ibtimes. Tomorrow I figure how to ban this site forever from my Google now links.

What an irritating article they give the update it’s full title ‘verizon galaxy note 3 android kit kat 4.4.update’ in every paragraph! It must be quoted 20 times in this article – at least it feels that way!

I have the update unfortunately and it limits app access to my SD card stick with jelly bean would be my advice.
