iPhone 5s vs. iPhone 6 Concept Showcases Rumors

A new iPhone 6 concept based on leaked iPhone schematics shows consumers how a large iPhone 6 could look versus the iPhone 5s, Apple’s current iPhone.

Over the past two weeks, consumers have been focused in on the release of the all new HTC One M8 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 release that it set to take place this Friday. These are two of the biggest smartphone releases of the year and both devices will challenge Apple’s iPhone 5s for consumer attention.

While recent attention has been lavished upon those two flagship Android devices, we’ve been hearing more and more about Apple’s rumored 2014 iPhone, a device that the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5 will likely meet in battle later on this year. Recently, rumors have pointed to possible iPhone 6 release dates and iPhone 6 software, rumored to be iOS 8. These were not the first iPhone 6 rumors and they certainly will not be the last.

For months, iPhone 6 rumors have suggested that Apple will release a larger iPhone that many think will help better position it next to the large-screen Android smartphones that have swarmed the market. In March, a leaked schematic from MacFan showcased two larger iPhone 6 models, a 4.7-inch iPhone and a 5.7-inch iPhone.

Both sizes have been rumored in the past and we’ve seen schematics for iPhones leak well ahead of time, both of which lend some credibility to the leak. While the schematics certainly don’t set anything in stone, they are compelling. They were, however, compelling enough that MacRumors got designer Ferry Passchier to create some iPhone 6 renderings based on the leaked schematics.

These new iPhone 6 renders are concepts based on rumors. They aren’t from Apple and there is a good chance that the real iPhone 6 will look nothing like these.

The images showcase a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a 5.7-inch iPhone 6 and they compare the concepts to the iPhone 5s and the iPad mini, two of Apple’s smaller mobile devices. The two devices are much bigger than the 4-inch iPhone 5s due to their screen sizes though the 7.9-inch iPad mini is still considerably larger.

These new iPhone 6 concepts incorporate some significant changes from the iPhone 5s in addition to the size change. We see a shift in the placement of the power button as it now resides on the left side of the device. We also see a slight change in the appearance of the camera on the 5.7-inch model as the camera juts out a little bit further than usual. This is similar to what’s found on Apple’s current fifth-generation iPod touch.

While these may not show the real iPhone 6, they are based on rumors that have leaked time and time again.

For months, iPhone 6 rumors have suggested that the iPhone 6 will come with a larger display and that Apple could be working on two models between 4.5-inches and 5.7-inches. A recent report from Reuters suggests that Apple may have delayed the larger of the two, a device that would likely compete with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

All iPhone 6 release date rumors point to an arrival in the summer or the fall with fall the leading choice at the moment. A recent report from Nikkei suggests that the iPhone 6 release date will launch as early as September, a date that lines up with Apple’s previous iPhone releases. The iPhone 4s launched in October while the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 debuted in September.

Other iPhone 6 rumors suggest that the device will come with an upgraded A8 processor and a new camera, two features that Apple tends to upgrade year-after-year. They also point to the use of sapphire on the iPhone 6, something that would help to strengthen the next iPhone and protect it from harm.

iPhone 6 rumors will continue to emerge throughout the year as Apple works to prepare its next iPhone for arrival. And while we could see the device itself leak in the build up to the launch event, there is a chance that these third-party concepts will be the closest that prospective iPhone 6 buyers get to the next iPhone until its shown off on stage.

The next iPhone will likely be accompanied by Apple’s next iOS update, rumored to be iOS 8. iOS 8 rumors point to a piece of software that doesn’t look much different than iOS 7 but delivers a number of big feature changes. The upcoming software is rumored to be coming with VoLTE support for the iPhone, new health related features that could tie in with Apple’s rumored iWatch, and more.

iOS 8 is expected to debut alongside a new version of OS X at Apple’s annual WWDC developer conference in San Francisco. Apple recently announced that its WWDC 2014 show will take place between June 2nd and June 6th, earlier than usual.

The company historically has used the platform to showcase new products though in recent years, the event has been limited to the company’s new software innovations.
