Having certain sites bookmarked is one thing, which makes browsing the web faster an easier, but making an icon right on your Galaxy S5 homescreen that will instantly open the browser and direct you to your favorite site is what we’re showing you here today.

Enthusiasts or long time smartphone owners have probably been doing little tricks like this for years, but average users or first-time buyers will love this quick little trick, as it sure makes browsing websites a lot easier. Using Google Chrome or even the stock Galaxy S5 browser, you can instantly add an icon to the homescreen of your favorite websites as a shortcut for instant access.

It’s extremely simple, and almost the same steps for multiple browsers if you’re not a fan of the built-in “Internet” app on the Galaxy S5. So here’s how to do it yourself.

Instructions

This entire shortcut and trick on the Samsung Galaxy S5 only takes a few seconds, and is extremely simple. I have multiple shortcuts added to my homescreen, and you’ll want to do the same using these steps.

The stock web browser on the Galaxy S5 is simply called “Internet” and is Samsung’s own web browser like Chrome or Internet Explorer. While using the stock Internet app simply pull down to reveal the address bar where you type the website name, and tap the three dots to the far right of the screen. This is the menu button which pops down to reveal a few options. A few down simply tap “Add shortcut to home screen” and you’re done.

The exact page you were viewing once you press add shortcut to home screen will now be added to your smartphone. While flipping through homscreens one tap on the newly created (and bland) icon will open the Internet app and instantly navigate to that website. You’re all set.

Alternatively this same process is extremely easy for Google’s own Chrome Browser, which is what most Android owners use. Head to the Google Play Store to download Google Chrome if you prefer it over Samsung’s stock option. As shown below you’ll start by hitting the same 3-dot settings icon and then “Add to homescreen” which will give you the option to name the shortcut. Once finished tap “Add” and it’ll instantly be on your homescreen ready for use. The icon is slightly different on Chrome than the stock browser, but they both work the same.

Some smartphone manufacturers will also allow users to long-press any homescreen for an options window. Here you’ll have widgets and even an “add to homescreen” option to add a bookmark that’s already been saved, but the instructions above are easier, and specific for Galaxy devices.

Our steps detailed above are exactly the same for all Galaxy devices using the stock Internet app, and will work for any and all Android devices using the Google Chrome web browser.

I understand this, but my issue is that I have lost the Contacts and Email shortcuts from my home screen and these functions don’t offer me the option “add to home screen”. How do I get them back?
