LG G3 Clears Another Hurdle for U.S. Release

The brand new LG G3 was announced late last month to plenty of excitement, but absent from the unveiling was official details surrounding a release date in the United States.

For months we’ve been hearing reports and rumors about the LG G3 coming to market before the end of Q2, essentially before June comes to a close, but so far no solid leaks have arrived to back that up. While LG initially announced that date themselves, that was a “global launch” target, and not necessarily a release schedule for carriers in the United States.

While we’re still waiting for more information from both LG and carriers stateside, more reports and additional details continue to arrive. The Verizon LG G3 just passed the FCC, which was the final step before a release, and we’ve also unearthed some details that suggest T-Mobile will be offering a better model of the LG G3 than other US carriers.

Verizon’s LG G3 passed through the FCC this week and received a seal of approval, which is the final step the company needed to take before releasing the smartphone. One thing worth mentioning is the filing had hints of wireless charging. We’ve heard wireless charging actually won’t be a feature built-in with the US LG G3, but is available outside of the United States.

Last year the LG G2 from Verizon was the only model that benefited from wireless charging, and it also had 32GB of internal storage and redesigned rear buttons. We’re not sure if any similar exclusives are planned for 2014 and the G3, but more details should reveal any information in the coming days or weeks.

When LG announced the G3 the company was quick to explain they’d actually be offering two different models. The smartphone sports a beautiful 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display, a powerful quad-core processor, a next-gen 13 megapixel OIS+ camera with laser auto focus technology, and tons of other unique features.

One additional bit of information is the LG G3 comes with a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Something that is comparable to the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. That being said, there’s also a version with 3GB of RAM for improved multi-tasking and performance, as well as 32GB of internal storage.

Interestingly enough carriers haven’t revealed which model they’ll be offering, but many are assuming the regular 16GB variant will be what most US carriers opt for, which matches the Galaxy S5. However, T-Mobile recently updated its LG G3 Product Page with a full list of specs, and they seem to be offering the high-end model of the LG G3. Claiming the T-Mobile LG G3 will have 32GB of internal storage and 3GB of RAM, vs the lower specs mentioned above. It’s too early to tell at this point, but T-Mobile may have an exclusive on a premium LG G3 variant in the United States.

When it comes to an actual release date for those in the United States eagerly awaiting the new LG G3, the details are slim to none. While LG confirmed a release before the end of June, this was a global announcement, and we can’t tie that to any US carriers.

AT&T and Verizon were first to offer the LG G3 last year, and could be the first again with the G3, so we’ll be looking for more details on that front. That being said, previous device launches by LG usually arrive more than a month after announcement dates, so take that as you will.

We’ll keep our eye our for any and all LG G3 release date details, and expect carrier announcements to start arriving sooner rather than later.
