New iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor Moves Date Forward, Adds Curved Screen

A new iPhone 6 release date rumor moves the date up for the biggest iPhone 6 and reiterates the use of a curved display to complete a new iPhone 6 design. Despite rumors that Apple will need to use two iPhone 6 release dates in 2014 for a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch iPhone this new report suggests Apple may be able to make it easy for shoppers by announcing two iPhones at the same event. If the rumor is correct the iPhone 6 release date will take place in September 2014.

We’ve known for months that Apple is working on two iPhone 6 screen sizes for 2014. Rumors agree on a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 that will be the main model to compete with the Galaxy S5 and a 5.5-inch model that is Apple’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and other large smartphones. If Apple is able to pull off the 5.5.-inch iPhone 6 release date in September it could beat the Galaxy Note 4 to stores.

For months reports claimed supply chain issues would prevent Apple from selling both of the new iPhone 6 models on the same day, but a new report shares details on the iPhone 6 release date, features and design.

The iPhone 6 release dates may arrive in September, and a report claims Apple plans a curved display.

iPhone 6 Release Date

Bloomberg reports that Apple suppliers will start production of the iPhone 6 in July. This matches a report from earlier this week, which outlined plans to hire 100,000 new workers in preparation for the iPhone 6 launch in the fall, but it offers a more optimistic iPhone 6 release date for the 5.5-inch model.

Sources tell Bloomberg that Apple could pull off a dual iPhone 6 release in September, offering a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model at the same time. Although this is far from set in stone, it does follow a trend in recent iPhone 6 release date rumors.

Since the start of the year rumors predicted a later 5.5-inch iPhone release, with many sources pointing to November or late 2014, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In June Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald issued a note that Apple could deliver a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 release date at the same time as the 4.7-inch model, or shortly after in October.

iPhone 6 Curved Screen & Design

In this new report we hear yet again that Apple plans to build a new iPhone that is thinner and rounder than the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. Mock ups show an iPhone that may be as thin as 6.1mm, though analysts predict a iPhone 6 that measures 6.5mm to 7mm thick. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s are 7.6mm thick.

A curved iPhone 6 display could be on the way according to a new report.

We also see edges that are rounder on many mock ups, but Bloomberg claims Apple is working on an iPhone 6 curved display. This new iPhone may look like the curved iPhone 6 concept above from Martin Hajek. The publication states,

Apple is developing new iPhone designs including bigger screens with curved glass and enhanced sensors that can detect different levels of pressure”

It is surprising to see rumors of a curved iPhone 6 display, but this is not the first time we’ve heard this report. Macotakara reported a similar design in late April. Bloomberg reported plans to use curved iPhone 6 displays in November 2013. The report keyed in on the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes early and shared plans for sensors that can detect a light touch or a hard touch.

Not all reports agree on curved iPhone display this year.

The curved iPhone 6 display would deliver a seamless transition from glass, or in this case Sapphire, to aluminum on the curved edges.

A Wall Street Journal report from January claims Apple will not use a curved display in the iPhone 6, so at this point it is not clear if the company is ready to deliver the wow factor of a curved iPhone this year. Ultimately we won’t know fi Apple can offer a curved display until the company appears on stage to announce the new iPhone and the iPhone 6 release date.

If Apple aims for an iPhone 6 release date in late September, as many rumors suggest, the announcement will likely take place in the first two weeks of September.

Apple Announced iOS 8 at WWDC 2014 in early June, telling developers to prepare their apps for the new software that will arrive on consumer devices this fall. The iOS 8 release will likely land a few days before the iPhone 6 release date, based on previous Apple launches.

Great! Accidentally touching the edge of the screen while holding the phone is something we need more of.
