I’m Trading My Xbox One for a PS4, and Here’s Why

Published

on

The Xbox One and PS4 have been out on the market for around eight and nine months, respectively. However, it hasn’t even been a full year yet, and I’m already thinking about switching sides.

I got the Xbox One on launch day, ready to experience what next-generation gaming is all about. I bought Madden 25 and Forza 5 to start things off, with the hopes that I’d get more games down the road once Microsoft and other developers released more titles. However, these are the only two games that I still have.

Forza 5, while really fun at the start, quickly became extremely boring and monotonous. I was excited to play Madden 25, but once I started up a quick match, the first words out of my mouth were, “these are the graphics?” along with a disappointed facial expression to accompany the quote.

I’m not saying I hate the Xbox One, but I’m simply just indifferent about it, and there’s nothing about the new console that makes me want to stay with it. Thus, it’s why I’m looking for a change.

With that said, I’m looking to trade away my Xbox One for a PS4. Hopefully I can find a fellow gamer who wants to trade away their PS4 for an Xbox One. If not, I may just try and sell my Xbox One for as much cash as I can get and buy a new or used PS4, and if I take a loss at all, it shouldn’t be a big one.

It may seem like a bold move, especially to hardcore gamers who are loyal to a specific platform, but I’ve got nothing holding me back and a list of reasons as to why I don’t need to keep my Xbox One. Here are just some of them.

It’s Simply All About the Games

I’ll just say it now: The omission of a good baseball simulator on Xbox One is the biggest reason why I want to switch to the PS4. I’m to the point where I’m finally giving into the temptation of all that is MLB 14: The Show. After watching video demonstrations of the game, I kept asking myself why the heck I’m not playing it. I’m done with that.

With the discontinuation of the MLB 2K series from 2K Sports, the Xbox was left without a decent baseball simulation game. Major League Baseball itself stepped in and released RBI Baseball 14 for Xbox One earlier this year. While the game is essentially a hat tip to the classic franchise of the 90s, it simply sucks, and baseball fans are still left without a solid baseball game for Xbox.

xbox-one2

Furthermore, Forza 5 became a complete bust, while the Gran Turismo series for PlayStation is booming. Gran Turismo 6 became the best game yet in the racing series. Forza 5 only has about 200 cars and 14 tracks, which is pitiful compared to Gran Turismo 6′s 1,100 cars and 39 tracks.

But what about all of the awesome Xbox One exclusives? I’m not really into any of them. Quantum Break, Fable Legends, Halo 5, and Sunset Overdrive just don’t really interest me. I’m mostly a sports gamer on consoles and an FPS gamer on PC, so any of those shoot-em-up titles on console just don’t get my motor running. And the fact that most of the sports games that I’d want to play are also available on PS4 is all the more reason to freely switch to Sony’s console.

Overall, it’s really just about the games for me. I don’t use a gaming console enough to take advantage of all the other features; I have other home entertainment devices for that. I’ve maybe used the Kinect once or twice since I got the Xbox One on launch day, and I don’t really care enough about the prestige of my Xbox Live profile to want to keep it around. It’s just another silly social profile.

The PlayStation Controller Is Finally Awesome

Perhaps the most important component of the Xbox One console is the controller, which has failed to really wow me much. I like that the overall design hasn’t changed from the Xbox 360, yet Microsoft improved the controller with better triggers that come with integrated force feedback. However, it mostly still feels pretty cheap, and compared to the PS4′s DualShock 4 controller, the Xbox One controller is a bit underwhelming.

PS4-Review-7-620x347

For the longest time, I’ve preferred the Xbox controllers. They felt better in the hand for the most part and I just couldn’t stand the PlayStation controllers one bit. However, the subtle upgrades to the design of the PS4 controller makes it way more comfortable to hold. The joysticks are easier to operate and the four buttons on the right of the controller feel way better to press.

It’s Time to Try Something New

When I first got into video games, Nintendo was really the only company doing big things, so it was naturally who I paid attention to. Because of that, I got a Super Nintendo as my very first gaming console. However, once the battle between Sony and Microsoft started, I joined the PlayStation side and bought an original PlayStation and then upgraded to a PS2 once that came out.

xbox-one-controller2

However, I switched to the Xbox 360 mostly because all of my friends had one, so gaming with them was really easy to do. However, that was back in my high school days. I don’t really do a lot of gaming with friends anymore, so knowing who has which console isn’t that important.

So you could say that I’m “coming home” to the PlayStation with a switch to the PS4, since that’s what I first chose when Sony and Microsoft began duking it out, but I don’t believe that I really have a home when it comes to gaming, so don’t be surprised if I switch back to the Xbox Two (or whatever the hell Microsoft names its next console).

The opinion thinks that the gaming world revolves around him, he must be a self-centric boy who wants others to follow his gaming preference..

A SONY FAN BOY. Why would you spend 500.00 or 400.00 on a system that you not going to get full price for the person who wrote this artical is a SONY FANBOY. I happen to love my xbox one . And by the way sonys playstation4 and xbox one have the same graphics chips in the systems you can look it up.

I agree with Michael. They do not have the same GPU. The PS4 one is simply more powerful. No fanboyism, no bias, just simple facts.

I believe the point the author is making concerning Forza 5 in comparison to GT6 means the PS3 racer experience offers a more complete ride than what the Xbox One offers in his opinion. Frankly many also believe GT6 is the better game aside from the obvious visual advantage of Forza 5. The author may not have pointed it out, however DriveClub is also releasing this holiday exclusively on PS4 and could another racing game in his sights.

I purchased both–and I feel you’re making the right decision. I’m mostly a multiplatform game player and the differences in power and graphics do matter to me–so the obvious preference for me is the PS4. Sunset Overdrive does look pretty good though, one of the reasons why selling my Xbox One is so difficult. Interesting comments about the controller though…I am “adjusting” to the PS4 controller after preferring the Microsoft 360 styled controller for years.

      08/04/2014 at 10:52 pm

I’m coming round to the idea that I’ll buy multiplatform games for the PS4 if I can’t get them on my PC. But previous consoles, as a rule, I wouldn’t buy multiplat games on the PS3 (see Red Dead, Fallout, Oblivion, Skyrim)

I purchased both the PS4 and Xbox One, and would have been better off purchasing neither at this point in time.

I’m getting a tonne more from my Wii U and my PS3 (tales games) at the moment. (Xbox 360 is collecting dust).

The lack of good games issue is on the PS4 as well as the Xbox One, it’ll come to life down the line no doubt though.

The games that are out, for the most part, are shocking. Don’t buy Killzone, one of the worst FPS I have played, ever, also, Titanfall, fun for 2 games, then boring. Same old same old game after game.

I prefer the Xbox One controller.

So… I guess what I’m getting at is… don’t ignore the Wii U, Nintendo, after all, are significantly better off than MS’s and Sony’s gaming departments.

I think you may be on to something here, but I would like to offer up the one thing, that most people seem to be forgetting.. The Wii U is in its 2nd year, pushing 3rd. It has been through its drought period. It started out terrible, now its got a few more titles.. same thing for the Xbox One and PS4… they will start off a bit slow… and have a few delays… but things will start coming faster and faster.. and be more solid all around.

I think this fall has a lot of good games, and while many of the multi plats are also last gen, they still have a clear advantage on the current gen systems.

Might actually want to check your facts before writing. Because Gran Turismo is ps3 and not ps4. I can understand wanting a ps4, but I like the just having both systems because I want to play a bit of everything attitude.

Simply put…PS4>XBO in almost every way. I’ve own both for a while, but all of my multi-platform games are on the PS4. Only game for the XBO is Titanfall which was free.

I agree that the XBO controller feels cheap compared to the DS4, but it has very good ergonomics. Also, I hate that MS charges $25 for the audio adapter when Sony has it built-in on the DS4 at no extra charge.

Do I regret buying the XBO? Not really, since I planned to buy both Sony and MS consoles. If I had to choose, it would be the PS4 no doubt.

On the plus side for the XBO, games drop in price much quicker than PS4 games.

I just want to point out that the Xbox One controller is far more durable than the PS4 controller.

People are complaining about their thumbsticks wearing out very fast on the PS4 controllers. Microsoft stress tested the Xbox One controllers with 10 years worth the wear and tear and it held up.

I can attest to it holding up as I play it daily and the thumbsticks still return to the neutral position (with no extra play from wear and tear) when I release them.

I do think the PS4 controller is much better than the previous iterations, even if the only new feature was that they added a touch pad to it.

This guy is has to have no knowledge of gaming what so ever…I have both. For one I have most my games on my xb1 so yes I play it more. The games I have on my ps4 aren’t on xb1 and that is the only reason I play it. But…none of the PS games drew me into them enough to keep playing. And i hate the controller. Feels like I’m holding 2 dildos and the buttons are still awkwardly placed…my 360 gets more play than both. So sadly my ps4 sits in the living room as decoration

I made the switch back to Playstation as I was tired that MS was treating the XBox like a cash cow with everything behind paywalls. I actually love the PS subscription service, also bought a Vita and PS3 for the kids, without needing to buy any games. All the included games are great, in fact I have spent more time playing the PS+ games on the PS4 than I have on the AAA titles – with the exception of Second Son.

The kids favourite game at the moment is Towerfall, which amazes me as they see no issue with old graphics when gameplay is so good.

Also love Vita remote play, so when the Fifa 14 addicted cousin comes around the TV is not hogged and he can play Fifa form pretty much anywhere in the house.

I think MS dropped the ball, Original Xbox with Halo is probably my joint all time best console/game experience along with N64/Goldeneye.

If MS can get their act together they can pull things around again next gen, but for current gen it’s PS4 for me.

The thing is that since 2006 (thanks to gears of war) I’ve always been an xbox guy. This time around though, I decided to buy a ps4 over the Xbox just because, and the more I play it despite what anyone else says about controller’s, graphics, hardware, etc. Until the Xbox comes out with another Gears game, I wouldn’t go back to a Microsoft console in a million years for multiple reasons aside from what most people discuss.

Huge mistake. I’ve been with the One since release date. I too have gotten bored with it. This of course, was between april and june, before E3. So, I bought a used PS4 to spice up the boring 3 month streak. People who had owned a PS4 told me not to do it. That their PS4’s were so boring, they had been collecting dust. I ignored it and got it anyway with the only game that seemed appealing to me on the PS4, which is Infamous. Long story short.. The hype.. the “superior resolution”..and all the things they say the PS4 does better than the One.. is complete horse shit. I gave this PS4 a good 3 day run until I couldn’t live with the fact that i had spent so much money on something that was even more boring than my Xbox. I traded back the PS4 and got all my money back (thank God) and realized that nothing was wrong with my Xbox. I was just bored. And it sounds the same way in your situation. By all means, if you really want a change, buy a used PS4. But DO NOT trade your xbox for a PS4. That’s the stupidest decision you can make out of boredom. Sunset Overdrive, the Master Chief Collection, Ori and the Blind Forest, Quantum Break.. These are all exclusive One games that are just around the corner. Be patient. Good things come to those who wait.

If you are not excited about halo or sunset overdrive(possibly a flop) def switch. I just went through last of us on ps4 and that experience alone is greater than all the “fun” I’ve had on my One. Do the right thing. Make the change. Or just buy a PS4 and have both?

  23. Anthony

    08/04/2014 at 4:21 pm

I own both and my Xbox is my main console only because of its social advantages like being able to snap Skype while playing with my cousin (he lives in Central America ,I live in US) and see his reaction when I beat him in fifa 14 or killer instinct.definitely cannot do that with my ps4! Kinect is pretty cool letting me turn on my TV and my console without even touching a control.only 3 games I own on ps4 is watchdog, infamous, and Tomb Raider and killer instinct, cod, dead rising,titanfall,ryse,forza5 sports rivals (not too good of a game but really fun).exclusives look better on ps4 hands down.but in third party games you can hardly tell a difference, although I’ve never compared them side by side.

Im going the other way. Been very unhappy with the games available…and please dont say”what about all the indies”…i tried to like a few but they are pretty much worthless. Been spending most of my time on a friends xbox one. Titanfall..forza..dead rising..ryse and killer instinct are by far bettet than anything out on ps4. And the coming games beyter by far on xbox one ad well. Plus EA access and ptemium NFL app on xbox one. PSnow is worthless to me. Have at it…im going to xbox one. Sunset overdrive, forza horizon 2, project spark and halo collection very soon plus all of EAs vault games and discounts and eraly access.

    08/06/2014 at 9:46 am

I couldn’t disagree more. I love owning all the consoles, but If I was going to trade one for the other…it’d be PS4 to get an X1. X1 is BY FAR my favorite. Sure PS4 is slightly more powerful, but in the end result the graphical differences are so tiny it’s nothing to really care about. Game appeal to me more on X1, the controller is better, the UI is WORLDS better, the Network is worlds better, chat/party/achievements etc are all better on X1.

Get them all if you can afford it, but when people write articles like this about why they are trading one in for the other (esp X1 for PS4) it makes me think they really have never given the “one they are trading in” a chance and just want to write an opinion piece like this.

  27. jaster

    08/06/2014 at 1:54 pm

This “article” really does read like a fanboy love letter. As an owner of both I’d never trade the Xbox for a ps4 or vice versa.

If games are the issue you are going to be let down unless your primary love is just better graphics.

Features wise the Xbox currently wipes the floor against the PlayStation.

Forgetting all that…the real rub was when you say gran turismo is the game to beat and forza is meh.

Are you insane? Gt has been stuck in the past and stealing features from forza for years. The last truly good gt was gt3. The series is stuck in the stone age and has been for a long time.

Madden? This is it? Hate to say but madden looks like the same crap lazy game on both consoles. Baseball? OK you got me there but all you are getting is the same mlb game again and again with better graphics.

No gamer… And I mean real gamer in their right mind would forgo either console. There are reasons to own both. There just happen to be more to owning the Xbox. Aside from last of us I hadn’t played my ps4 since the launch of watch dogs which I played for about 5 days and found it to be incredibly tedious.

It’s all about the games, so I sold it for the console with shittier games and a lineup that looks like a desert until winter TWENTY FIFTEEN. What a moron. Keep the fanboy articles to yourself. This isn’t news nor is it mildly based on something that could be considered an educated opinion. Microsoft, for the first time in FIVE YEARS, is kicking Sony’s ass in the games department. That is a fact.

I own both a PS4 and an XBOX ONE. But I mainly play on my WII U (Monster Hunter). And the only current gen consoles I play now are my Xbox 360 since I’ve invested more money into the console compared with my playstation 3, WII or even my UEYA or my handheld devices like my VITA and my DS I’s.

Wow, what a angry, biiter xbot you are. And they most certainly do not have the same graphics chip. The X1 has a graphics chip inferior to a 7790 whereas the PS4 has a graphics chip thats better than a 7850 but not as good as a 7870. Its got over 50% more power. So get your facts straight fanboy.

I agree with the author, owning both, i feel that the PS4 is a better system, from the UI to the graphics to the controller to the games, the PS4 is just better. And contrary to what fanboys say, Live is not better than PSN, its actually worst, as i get more lag and disconnects from live than i ever do from PSN, and Plus is cheaper and gives you way more games than Live. I actually regret getting a X1, i did it because of my friends and now i regret it. The PS4 is better in every single way and the consumers have spoken.

    @jaster
You mad eh? The PS4 wipes the floor with the X1 on all fronts, games, price, power, features. GT wipes the floor with Forza. And there is so much more to owning a PS4 than a X1. All the X1’s selling points are inferior and badly performing games, like Ryse and DR3 to low res, bad framerate performing games that can barely maintain a 30fps framerate while running at low res. Same with KI, 720p. Garbage, only a fanboy would think otherwise.

Everyone on here needs to chill out and stop with this “trading in” nonsense. If you’re an early adopter then you should have been prepared for a year long draught of almost no note-worthy games for either system. This isn’t a new concept since it’s happened for nearly every new console in every generation. We all know exclusive will make or break each console not graphics or multiplatform games. So the best thing you can do is wait this all out until the holiday season when a clear difference between both consoles starts emerging then you can talk about “trading in” all you want. I’m tired of all the damn complaining…

  47. Jack

    11/25/2014 at 4:28 am

So I’m also switching to the PS4. I’ve had enough of the xbox one and it’s controllers. To have one controller break on you in two weeks is bad enough but to have four and not finish one game of NBA2K15 is ridiculous. I’ve heard that Microsoft spent over $10 million for controller upgrades and I feel as is they pocketed $9.9 million of it. The only difference between the xbox 360 controller as opposed to the xbox one is the xbox 360 controller was a thousand times more durable. The left joystick on the xbox one is a joke. It is very easy to have it stick and break. You know it’s done for when you shake and hear the little rattling sound in the controller. Don’t bother trying to call Microsoft for help on the control via online or over the phone because the wait is always 20 minutes and they either hang up on you or log you out after ten minutes. I also don’t think Microsoft will be doing a recall on the controllers. I’ve had the xbox 360 for five years and went through three controllers. In contrast, I’ve gone through four controllers in less than two weeks. Also, game franchise stores will deny, deny, deny any issue with the controller and you’re better off buying the game system or controllers at target as you can get a full refund regardless if you opened the game or not. I’m done ranting for the day. If anyone has had similar issues you should type in left joystick issues in google and see all the xbox one complaints that are out there. I sure wish I read about those issues beforehand.
