An upcoming HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update release date has been confirmed days ahead of the OTA as HTC works to upgrade its flagship with the bug fixes and enhancements that come with Google’s Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for Android 4.4 KitKat.
In June, Google rolled out Android 4.4.3 KitKat, a bug fix update aimed at quelling Android 4.4.2 KitKat problems on Nexus devices and other Android smartphones and tablets running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. And while the company rolled out an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update later in the month with a new security patch attached to it, HTC opted to continue the Android 4.4.3 KitKat roll out with that Android 4.4.4 KitKat patch on board.
The past few weeks have seen several HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates roll out. The company also started rolling out the HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update though that update is not as prevalent as the HTC One M8. The HTC One M7 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update remains limited to the Developer Edition.
HTC recently confirmed several HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat upgrades for the near future with T-Mobile HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat and AT&T HTC One M8 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update slated to arrive in August. AT&T’s HTC One M8 update is supposedly going to roll out in mid-August while the T-Mobile HTC One M8 update could roll out a little sooner than that.
HTC’s Mo Versi continues to keep HTC One users in the loop in regards to Android 4.4.3 KitKat and a short time ago, he issued a very specific release date for the T-Mobile HTC One M8 version of the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update. Versi says that the company received approval from T-Mobile and that the update is now scheduled for a August 11th OTA. Given that the update has received approval, this Android 4.4.3 release date is expected to hold for T-Mobile HTC One M8 users.
The AT&T HTC One M8 update, also scheduled for mid-August, has not been setup with a specific date though it could potentially emerge in and around the same date. Versi will likely confirm those details through his Twitter account.
For the moment, the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 are the only HTC devices confirmed to be getting Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The company hasn’t confirmed the update for any other devices. With an Android L update from Google in the works for later this year, it’s possible that HTC will simply opt to skip Android 4.4.3 KitKat for devices like the HTC One Max and HTC One mini and move right into Android L.
HTC is just one of a few manufacturers making a strong push to deliver bug fixes for Android 4.4.2 KitKat bug problems. Both Motorola and Sony are in the midst of massive Android 4.4.4 KitKat roll outs, roll outs that have already landed for many of their big name smartphones. Motorola and Sony are also expected to make a strong Android 4.4.4 pushes in August ahead of the Android L update.
There are, however, several companies that remain inactive. LG and Samsung, for instance, have yet to confirm any Android 4.4.3 KitKat or Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrades for their top smartphones and tablets. Rumors did point to a couple of Galaxy Android 4.4.3 KitKat updates but Samsung continues to push out Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates to Galaxy devices like the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2.
LG and Samsung also remain silent about upcoming Android L updates. HTC has confirmed Android L for its HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 within 90 days of Google’s public release. The Android L release is expected to arrive sometime later this year, possibly in the fourth quarter alongside a new Nexus 8 tablet and a new Nexus 6 smartphone from Motorola.
