Early iPhone 6 Release Date Hours Confirmed for Verizon

Published

On the iPhone 6 release date this Friday Verizon will open two hours early to start selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which means you’ll need to factor that in if you plan to line up for the new iPhones early that morning or overnight.

It’s not a shock to see the early hours for Verizon stores on the iPhone 6 release date, but it is good to know that the hours are confirmed and will match the timing at a local Apple Store.

Over the next few days we expect to hear confirmation from AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint about the early hours as carriers plan their prep for the iPhone 6 release date on Friday.

It is important to know what to expect on September 19th, especially considering Apple already sold four million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in the pre-order — which signals the potential for long lines and low stock of the iPhone 6 Plus at many stores.

Verizon confirmed that corporate owned stores will open at 8 AM local time on the iPhone 6 release date, two hours ahead of the normal opening.

After spending several new iPhone releases at a Verizon store you can expect a line to form by 4-5AM local time, possibly earlier this year. We rarely encounter someone staying out all night, but it is not unheard of in bigger cities.

The line typically grows rapidly starting at 7-7:15 as more shoppers decide to come buy a new iPhone and by the time the first few shoppers check out the line often wraps around the building at a local Verizon.

Although the Verizon store will not open until 8 AM local time, a manager will typically come out to talk to those in line an hour or two before the store opens. During the initial conversation don’t expect confirmation of how many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units they have in stock, but you may get a few hints.

As the iPhone 6 release time gets closer staff will walk through to find out which new iPhone you want, what color iPhone 6 you plan to buy and how much storage you need. They will also ask about iPhone 6 insurance and iPhone 6 accessories.

This all happens before the store opens so that you don’t lose out on your place in line when they open the doors to the first group of people and to speed up the sales.

Keep in mind that Verizon staff are not able to help you get around the unlimited data loss when you upgrade on contract. The only way they can officially help you is to sell you the iPhone 6 at full retail price.

Some times you’ll find shorter lines and faster checkouts at smaller Verizon locations like mall kiosks, but they may not have as many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units for sale. If you stop in at a store on Thursday night the staff will normally tell you if they are think they will have a small or large amount, but won’t know numbers.

It’s a great idea to check like this, because last year a member of the Gotta Be Mobile team stood outside a T-Mobile until it opened and then they told him they had no new iPhones to sell.

So far we also know that Apple Stores open early for the iPhone 6 release date at 8AM local time and Walmart confirmed it will start selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at 8 AM as well. Look for other carriers to confirm early openings and for details from retailers like Staples, Best Buy and Radio Shack.
