Galaxy Note 4 Release Date: What Buyers Can Expect Now (U.S.)

Published

on

As we push closer to the month of October, we’re finally seeing the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date details fall into place for consumers in the United States. With a Galaxy Note 4 release date now just weeks away, we want to take an updated look at what buyers in the United States can expect from Samsung’s Next Big release.

In early September, Samsung took the stage in Berlin, Germany and announced a number of new products including its new Gear S watch, the new Gear VR virtual reality headset, a new Galaxy Note Edge with a curved display, and of course, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the oft-rumored replacement for the Galaxy Note 3.

On stage, Samsung outlined all of the Galaxy Note 4 specs including its 5.7-inch Quad HD display, its brand new 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, its new S Pen, its Android 4.4.4 KitKat software that’s backed by TouchWiz, its new design that comes with both plastic and metal materials, and a whole lot more. Samsung also confirmed the Galaxy Note 4 release for October though it did not provide specifics.

For a couple of weeks, Samsung and its carrier partners remained silent, even as the Galaxy Note 4 release date made progress behind the scenes. Earlier this week, the fifth and final U.S. bound Galaxy Note 4 model passed through the FCC and we had a sneaking suspicion that an announcement for the United States was going to be close. Sure enough, today, Samsung and its partners went live with a ton of information for the United States.

With a ton of Galaxy Note 4 release information swirling around, we want to take another detailed and updated look at what we’re expecting from the Galaxy Note 4 release date in the United States. This includes all of the pertinent release information and some of the things that we expect from the Galaxy Note 4 release in the future.

Galaxy Note 4 Release Date Set in U.S.

We now know what you prospective Galaxy Note 4 buyers can expect from the Galaxy Note 4 release date. Earlier today, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon confirmed the Galaxy Note 4 release date for October 17th, or, a little over a month from now. Expect that date to remain concrete as we move forward. It’s clear that the Galaxy Note 4 is ready for release and our guess is that carriers wanted some separation between the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy Note 4.

Sprint and U.S. Cellular will also release the Galaxy Note 4 on October 17th. You should also expect that date to stick. The Galaxy Note 4 has passed most if not all of its certifications in the United States and there’s no reason to believe that it will be delayed.

One thing to note is that AT&T says it will be shipping its orders starting on October 14th. This means that pre-orders should emerge a day or two ahead of the actual release date. It’s a small incentive but if you’re set on the Galaxy Note 4, then you may as well put in an early order.

No Smaller Carriers

It’s clear, at least to us, that the Galaxy Note 4 will stick with these five carriers. Expect AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon to be the only Galaxy Note 4 operators in the United States. We would have heard about smaller carriers by now. Instead, we’ve heard nothing. So, look for the U.S. Galaxy Note 4 release to be limited.

Galaxy Note 4 Pre-Orders

Four of the five carriers in the U.S. announced Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders. U.S. Cellular is the lone one out and it says that it plans to share more details in the next few weeks in the build up to the Galaxy Note 4 release date on September 17th.

Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders are not created equal. AT&T will be putting its Galaxy Note 4 up for pre-order starting tomorrow. Verizon will be doing the same and those interested will be able to put in an order starting at midnight PST or 3AM EST. This is similar to what Apple and Verizon did for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

T-Mobile will start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 4 on September 24th, a few days after these other carriers. There was no reason given for the delay so you’re just going to have to deal with it. Sprint will be taking Galaxy Note 4 pre-orders even later on September 26th. That’s the same day that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus land for smaller, regional U.S. carriers.

No Need to Pre-Order

We expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 stock to hold steady at all carriers. We haven’t heard about any supply issues and with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set to arrive tomorrow, there will be more than a few people that decide they can’t wait until October. Android devices very rarely sell out and while the Galaxy Note 4 could be immensely popular, Samsung’s supply lines should hold up like they normally do.

What this means is that you probably won’t need to pre-order the Galaxy Note 4 if you want it on the October 17th release date. This will actually work to your advantage because it means that you can comfortably go hands-on with its competitors ahead of its October release date and decide if it’s worth waiting for. We highly recommend taking a look at the Galaxy Note 3 before October.

No Lines on Galaxy Note 4 Release Day

With pre-orders taking place over the course of a month, we’re expecting a smooth Galaxy Note 4 release date. We almost never see lines form for Android smartphones anyway. Expect to be able to walk into an AT&T or Verizon location on October 17th and walk right out with a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Galaxy Note 4 Price

In addition to the Galaxy Note 4 release date details, we’ve gotten word of some other key release details including its price.

AT&T says that it will offer the Galaxy Note 4 at $299.99 on-contract. That’s the same price that we’ve seen from the past three Galaxy Note models. It also says that it will offer it at $34.42 with an AT&T Next 18 plan, or $41.30 per month with an AT&T Next 12 plan. Off-contract, the Galaxy Note 4 is going to cost a whopping $825.99. That’s way more expensive than we originally thought.

The Verizon Galaxy Note 4 will cost $299.99 on-contract. We’re not sure how much the carrier will charge on its Edge plan though we expect to find that information out soon enough. With a pre-order starting tonight, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of its pricing is revealed.

Sprint will also charge $299.99 on-contract. The carrier also says that it will offer it on Sprint Easy Pay where qualified buyers can purchase the Galaxy Note 4 with $0 down (plus tax) and 24 monthly payments of $30. The full retail price at Sprint will be $720, lower than AT&T’s asking price.

T-Mobile’s Galaxy Note 4 will cost $0 up-front, and then $31.24 each month, for 24 months going forward. We’re still not sure how much the U.S. Galaxy Note 4 will cost though we don’t imagine it being much more than $299.99, if it differs at all.

Galaxy Note 4 Deals

Those that pre-order the Galaxy Note 4 between September 19th and October 16th will get a guaranteed total trade-in of $200 on any working smartphone. Those interested can find out more on Samsung’s website.

Note-4-vs-Note-3-2

This of course won’t be the only Galaxy Note 4 deal. We expect there to be a variety of Galaxy Note 4 deals come release day. We almost always see retailers like Amazon and Walmart undercut the competition and we would not be surprised if they offered discounts here with the Galaxy Note 4 release.

Android smartphones always get price cuts in the days after release so expect the U.S. variants to drop below $299.99 almost immediately after that October 17th release date.

Limited Color Options

As expected, Samsung announced that the device would be available in white and black thru U.S. carriers. The company’s website also lists those two colors for U.S. carriers. So, we expect the gold and blue variants to be missing upon release. This is typical and should as a surprise to no one. The only question now is whether or not they’ll be exclusive.

Note-4-6

We expect them to follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy S5 gold and blue models and arrive several weeks after the initial release date across most carriers in the U.S. We could see an exception or two but don’t expect them to be exclusive.

Adam, you state $299 on-contract for Sprint. Where or what source is showing that?
