iOS 8 iPad 2 Problems & Performance

Published

on

The list of iOS 8 iPad 2 problems grows as more users install the free iOS 8 update on the aging tablet and experience a variety of iOS 8 problems that weren’t present a week ago.

It’s common for a major update to bring some small issues, but iPad 2 owners describe the iOS 8 update as unusable and worse.

If you are thinking of installing the update you need to check out these iOS 8 iPad 2 reviews from regular users who aren’t happy with the iOS 8 performance on the iPad 2 or with crashes and other issues.

The iPad 2 is the oldest iPad Apple supports with the iOS 8 update, and this may be the last major update that Apple is able to push on to the tablet. There are some exciting new iOS 8 features coming to the iPad 2 that users will enjoy, but not all make the cut.

What you need to know before you upgrade the iPad 2 to iOS 8.

What you need to know before you upgrade the iPad 2 to iOS 8.

You don’t need to install the iOS 8 update on the iPad 2. You can stay on iOS 7.1.2 forever if you want. There is a small window to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7, but it closes any day now, and it won’t open back up. There is hope that an iOS 8.1 update will delivery better iPad 2 performance, but that could take months to arrive.

Here are must-read iPad 2 iOS 8 reviews from users that regret installing the free iOS 8 update.

iPad 2 “Useless” After iOS 8

Vocal users are not happy with the iOS 8 iPad 2 performance. One user calls the device useless and another says it is now a pretty picture frame.

iOS 8 iPad 2 Safari Problems

Other users complain that with iOS 8 install on the iPad 2 Safari locks up and is slow. “Safari is a joke,” one user tweets at Tim Cook along with a list of other problems.

iOS 8 iPad 2 Speed & Performance

Judging from all of the user reviews of iOS 8 on the iPad 2 speed is an issue. Many users on Twitter say the iPad 2 runs slower after the update.

Not all users feel this way. Some report the update didn’t slow the iPad 2 down, but that it was already slowing over the past several months anyway.

This isn’t a shock. Ars Technica tested iOS 8 and iOS 7 on the iPad 2 and found that some tasks do take longer on the iPad 2. Safari, Settings, Mail, Messages and Calendar all take noticeably longer to open on the iPad 2 running iOS 8.

iOS 8 iPad 2 Bugs & Problems

Although the user does not go into detail about each issue, Sandeep reports blue screen problems, restarts and WiFi issues. WiFi issues are particularly troublesome as they can be hard to pinpoint and fix.

Apple Support forums include complaints about iOS 8 WiFi problems, but at this point they don’t seem as bad as on earlier updates.

Should You Install iOS 8 on the iPad?

At this point it looks like you should not install iOS 8 on the iPad 2. If you don’t need the new features, and you can’t get all of them anyway, it’s a good idea to stay on iOS 7.1.2 for now.

Soon you will be stuck on iOS 8 and you may not see an iOS 8.1 update that could bring improvements until a few months now.

If you feel the need to install iOS 8, you may want to at least hold off for a few weeks to see if problems are subsiding.

My Ipad2 has been killed by IOS8 too. I tried to post this fact in the Apple Support community but the forum is monitored by Apple. they removed my posts and I am now banned.

My iPad2 ran very slowly after the update. I restarted it twice and it seems to be almost where it was before the update now.

Downloaded ios 8 on my iPad 2. Took it out. Rest of my products are fine, but iPad 2 owners might think hard prior to “upgrading.”

Ipad 2 Safari slow and reloaded web pages due to a problem? Went to Safari settings and turned OFF all of the special features. Runs much better now and will have to try turning features back on individually to isolate which one(s) were causing the issues.

IOS 8 on iPad 2 — Performance is soo bad that you feel like to throw it away.. It seems IOS* only give good wallpaper for iPad 2 and nothing else… Absolutely rubbish software I ever used on iPad 2.

I installed IOS 8 on my iPad 2 (WiFi, 16 Gb) and noted the following:
    1. The graphic transitions when opening and closing apps became “jumpy”.
    2. Bluetooth stopped working with my Boston Acoustics XS 2.1 (repeatedly connects and disconnects). I tried all the easy suggestions I found on the internet – forgetting device, repairing, reset network, reset all, …. nothing helped.

I “downgraded” to 7.1.2 and all the issues went away.

So what are we to do? I can’t even complete a full sentence on the apple support site before it freezes. This is really not fare. If I had the money for an iPad air – I wouldn’t have been updating this now ruined iPad 2 to begin with…

It is worth noting that on this particular ipad 2 and 8.1 update that everything got a lot more “snappy” when I went into settings and disabled notifications from my apps. I predominantly use this for email and casual web browsing and do not have much need for notifications. I no longer have issues with safari speed and keyboard lag.

OMG. My ipad2 is worthless since the “upgrade” it was actually a down grade for me!!!! I can not even really use my iPad now. The word slow does even begin to describe how mine functions now…

Just made the mistake of “upgrading” to ios8 and am now finding problems with emailing such as not being able to reply to or forward emails, not being able to download photos off emails and had an initial problem reconnecting to the wifi.
Any news on bug fixers being available soon?
