16 Nexus 6 Tips, Tricks & Hidden Features

Now that the Nexus 6 is here and running Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software update users will want to know about everything the phone and OS update have to offer. And while there is still plenty to learn, below is a quick video and list of 16 or so tips and tricks to help you use the Nexus 6 better.

Google’s packed in cool new features with Android 5.0 Lollipop and many of them are so simple users may not even know they exist. Call it Nexus 6 tricks or Android 5.0 tips and hidden features, either way, you’ll want to know about everything we mention below to get the most of your new smartphone.

Below are a few videos and plenty of screenshots and information, as well as simple how to instructions right in the video to complete all the tasks and tips mentioned. There is a lot more than just these 16 or so, and we’ll be adding more soon. That said, lets get started with the video below.

Nexus6-5

The Nexus 6 and Android 5.0 Lollipop were both officially unveiled on October 15th, and now roughly one month later they’re both finally available to prospective buyers. Whether you’ve bought one, or want to see what it has to offer, the quick 10 minute video below will give you a glimpse of what to expect.

All of these Nexus 6 tips and tricks work right out of the box, and many of them are simply new features that are somewhat hidden an average user may not know about. The video below will help you learn how to do and enjoy a few more things on the Nexus 6 or Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Tap & Go

While our main Tips & Tricks video is embedded below, we’ll start with something that many users will see first when they boot the phone for the first time. Android 5.0 Lollipop has a new Tap & Go restore feature, as well as options to restore any previously own device to your new Nexus 6. This is a huge step forward in making the transition from an old phone to a new one easier, and you’ll want to know all about it.

On first boot you’ll be greeted with this option. Simply using NFC you’ll tap your old phone to the new one, and a bluetooth and NFC connection will share all the info. Everything from apps downloaded, app data, WiFi passwords, user accounts like Gmail, and more. This makes switching phones extremely easy.

You can skip this and restore from a list of your currently owned devices if you have a lot, like me, or setup as new if you’d like. It’s extremely convenient, so give it a try.

Android 5.0 has a lot to offer, as does the Nexus 6. Things like guest mode, quick shortcuts to battery stats, a battery saver mode, quick toggles, a flashlight app right on the pulldown bar, data usage shortcuts, do not disturb modes, priority notification customizations, screen pinning to keep any app (and only that app) on your screen, and so many other things we don’t have time to mention.

That all being said, below is a video showing off 15 or so things you’ll surely want to know about, try, and use on a daily basis as your Nexus 6 becomes your daily smartphone.

Without making things too difficult or making 15 separate videos, the clip above quickly runs down a few things every Nexus 6 owner must know. Many of them aren’t extremely new, some are brand new Android 5.0 features, and others are simply hidden features you probably didn’t know about.

With Android 5.0 Lollipop Guest Mode or multi-user accounts comes to smartphones, rather than just tablets. Allowing for a second user account for work, friends, or even the kids. This is simply a few taps away. Pull down the notification bar with two fingers, tap the blue "user circle" and you'll be greeted with the image in this slide to add a new guest, or switch with ease.

    These are all lollipop features. This article is poorly titled, there are no nexus 6 specific features. Just lollipop features.
