How to Search Facebook Posts on iPhone

on

If you need to find a Facebook post that you published years ago, Facebook now allows users to search by keyword and will bring up any posts that contain that keyword. Here’s how to do it.

Facebook just added this ability to its social network, allowing users to finally search through past Facebook posts. In the past, if you wanted to find an old Facebook post of yours, you’d have to sift through your News Feed until you found it, but this new update from Facebook finally allows you to easily find certain posts by searching for it.

Previously, typing in “wedding” into Facebook’s search box would only bring up pages and apps related to “wedding.” However, this new feature will also display all the posts you have previously viewed that contain the word “wedding.”

Furthermore, the search results are personalized for you, which means that you can’t search through every single post on Facebook ever, but rather only the ones that have been shared with you by Facebook friends.

We’ve already seen the update roll out on iPhone, while the desktop version of Facebook’s website still has yet to see the update, but it should be sooner rather than later.

If you want to start searching Facebook for specific posts, here’s how to do it on your iPhone.

How to Search Past Facebook Posts

Typing in a keyword would normally bring up Facebook pages, apps, games, etc. that related to that keyword, but this new search feature now looks for that keyword in all Facebook posts that have been shared with you and shows them to you in the same way that they would normally appear in your News Feed.

To start searching past Facebook posts, follow these simple steps:

  • If you haven’t already, update the Facebook iOS app by opening up the App Store app and tapping on the Updates tab in the lower-right corner.
  • You should see an update for Facebook. If not, you most likely already have the latest version installed.
  • After installing the latest version of the Facebook app, open up the app and then tap inside of the search box at the top.
  • Search for anything. I typed in “tacos” and was immediately greeted by past Facebook posts that contained the word “tacos.”

Of course, you’ll still receive results from pages, apps, games, etc. that are related to the term you searched for, but below that will be Facebook post results.

It’s hard to believe a feature like this is new, but we can’t blame Facebook for other features that are more of a priority for the company, including fixing many News Feed annoyances, which the social network has been rather good at lately.

The Facebook News Feed can be seen as both awesome and horrible, but Facebook made it so that it’ll at least be less horrible and more awesome by changing how users deal with News Feed items that they want and don’t want to see.

The social network rolled out a new settings menu for the News Feed that gives users more options for controlling what shows up in their News Feed.

Whenever you go to hide a certain post, you’ll now be given the option to simply “see less” from that user, instead of just hiding that one post from your News Feed or simply hiding every post from them. This prevents you from having to unfriend them entirely just so you don’t have to see a majority of their updates, especially if they regularly post a lot of content.

You can also click on News Feed Settings to see a whole list of friends, groups, and pages that you’re following and unfollowing, making it easy to make changes by following or unfollowing certain friends.

Of course, if you still hate Facebook and are pessimistic about it ever getting better, we don’t blame you if you just delete your account and go outside.
