Seagate Wireless Hard Drive Provides Extra iPhone Storage

Published

Wireless hard drives that can connect to your iPhone are nothing new, but Seagate is joining in on the fun with its Wireless portable hard drive.

The Seagate Wireless comes in a 500GB storage package and allows you to stream content to your iPhone or other mobile device without the content needing to take up space on your iPhone.

The hard drive offers a nine-hour battery life and it can store pretty much anything that can be viewed on the iPhone. However, you’ll have to use the accompanying Seagate Media app in order to access files that are on the hard drive.

Color options include lime green, cool blue, slate grey, fire-engine red and white. While Seagate doesn’t provide a list of all compatible products, it does say that it can work with the iPhone, iPad, Kindle Fire tablets, Windows 8 computers, Windows RT tablets, and Android devices.

As with other wireless hard drive options, the Seagate Wireless doesn’t need to be connected to a WiFi network in order for users to access files from their mobile devices, as your iPhone and the hard drive can communicate locally using WiFi itself.

The Seagate Wireless will be available early next month at a price of $129.

Other products that Seagate announced this week at CES 2015 include the Seagate Personal Cloud, as well as the Seagate Seven.

The Personal Cloud aims to replace traditional cloud storage services by offering users their own personal cloud storage without the need to subscribe to third-party services like Dropbox and Google Drive.

The Personal Cloud allows users to back up their computers using the Seagate Mobile Backup app, as well as store content on a dedicated hard drive that’s located in your own home rather than on a remote server like it would be with Dropbox or Google Drive.

Still though, your content can be accessed outside of your house just like with any other cloud storage service using the Seagate Media app.

The Seagate Personal Cloud will begin shipping this month in 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB capacities with prices starting at $169. There will also be 2-Bay options available in 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB capacities.

As for the Seagate Seven, the company touts it as the world’s thinnest 500GB portable hard drive, which measures in at just 7mm thick (hence the name of the product and is made out of a steel case, giving it a sleek look while making it rugged.

The Seagate Seven will be available at the end of this month for $99.
