HTC One M9 Leaks Again Ahead of Release Date

With the HTC One M9 launch date officially confirmed for March 1st by HTC themselves, we’re now starting to see a flood of leaks and images emerge. And while the past few weeks have been filled with different reports, today another set of photos have leaked ahead of the HTC One M9 release date.

The first HTC One M9 rumors started to arrive in September last year with some initial concept renders, but with the launch date coming soon the leaksters are out in full force. HTC’s One M8 was heavily rumored in early 2014 before being announced and released at the end of March, and the same slew of leaks is happening with the M9.

Lately we’ve seen multiple reports of the new HTC One M9, codenamed “HTC Hima”, as well as some reports of a new HTC One Max in the works for later this year. Today though, we’re getting our clearest look at the back of the device, which confirms a few details that were previously left unanswered for potential buyers waiting for this smartphone to launch.

HTC One M9 - Exciting Tech 2015

The first reported images of the HTC One M9 leaked earlier this week but sadly no details came along with the images aside from the already available information based on rumors. Today though, Phandroid received another set of photos giving us a clear look at the back of the smartphone. These confirm HTC has removed the dual camera setup called “Duo Camera” from last year, and are going with a single but much better main camera.

Below is out best look at the rear of the new HTC One M9, and it looks extremely similar to last years model. Something that is a good thing, but could be a bad thing for those waiting for something slightly different or new from the Taiwanese manufacturer.

As you can see in the image above the new HTC One M9 will be ditching the dual cameras on back for one massive square 20.7 megapixel camera. Something all previous owners should be excited about. In our initial HTC One M8 review the camera was our only complaint.

There are some odd marks around the camera, but the leaksters claim this was edited in photoshop to remove identifying marks to protect his identity. This could be the real thing, or a heavily photo-shopped fake of the original from last year. We’re not 100% sure.

The source of these leaks is confident that this is the official HTC One M9 that will be announced and revealed live on stage come March 1st by HTC at the annual Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Spain. One thing to take away from these recent leaks is regarding the sheer size of the device. All previous rumors suggested the HTC One M9 will have a large 5.5-inch Quad-HD display, but these reports suggest HTC will be sticking to what they consider the perfect size — which is a 5-inch display — and this leak claims it will still be a 1080p HD display, and not Quad HD like the LG G3 or Galaxy S6. Here’s a full size look:

The images that leaked yesterday lend credence to the idea that this will indeed by a 5-inch smartphone, as it doesn’t look nearly as big as a large 5.5-inch smartphone would. Especially with the large bezels around the display.

If all the reports and rumors are accurate buyers can look forward to a 5-inch 1080p or Quad HD display, a powerful 8-core processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage with a micro-SD slot, a 20.7 rear and 4 Ultrapixel rear camera, and an improved and bigger 2,840 mAh battery inside. The new HTC One M9 will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop and a redesigned and improved HTC Sense UI 7.0 as well.

Now all we need to know is when the actual release date is, what carriers will be offering it, and for how much. That will all arrive in due time, but most likely all major US carriers will offer this phone for around $599-$649 or $199 on contract, and hopefully before the end of March. Stay tuned as more details will surely be coming soon.
