HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Arrives for More Users

Published

on

The HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update officially kicked off for owners earlier this month, and over the past few weeks has continued to arrive for more and more proud owners. HTC promised quick updates to Lollipop for the HTC One and One M8, and today we’ve learned those in Canada are now receiving the update following yesterdays news of a rollout in Europe.

Back in October Google announced the its Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and the completely redesigned and improved Android 5.0 Lollipop update. A few days later, HTC promised many key devices would see updates within 90 days, which is February 3rd for those keeping track. They’ve met that mark for many regions, but the key region is the United States, where updates have yet to start.

The HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update first arrived for the Google Play Edition last year, and then rolled out to a few small select markets, as well as for unlocked international models and the developer HTC One M8 here in the US. Today though, Canadian carriers are pushing the update, which is good news for those in the US.

In November the first HTC One and HTC One M8 Android 5.0 updates arrived for those with the Google Play Edition HTC One or One M8, and after a few delays they received the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop well ahead of most Nexus devices. HTC has done an excellent job with updates, as well as an outstanding job at keeping users up to date on Twitter.

Earlier this month a few rumors surfaced suggesting the HTC One M8 Android 5.0 update was moving along extremely quick, and that it could arrive within the next 1-2 weeks, well ahead of the November 3rd deadline. It looks like the popular developer LlabTooFer was right, because the update hit the developer edition nearly two weeks ago.

Today though, the HTC One M8 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has kicked off in Canada, starting with three major carriers and rolling out to more in the coming weeks.

In the usual fashion HTC confirmed the news themselves over on Twitter. Stating that Android 5.0 Lollipop for HTC One M8 devices is headed to those on Bell, SaskTel, and WINDmobile. Additional carrier announcements should be made in the near future.

Similar to the 90 day update window set by HTC themselves, the HTC Canadian division promised the updates would start by February 1st, so they’re right on track and a few days early. MobileSyrup states TELUS and a few others will kick off on February 2nd. This is excellent news for all HTC One M8 owners in Canada, and potentially good news for the US.

While we’re still waiting on confirmations or updates from carriers here in the United States, this is a sign that the update process is moving along smooth and quickly, and US carriers should be next. We could see updates start this weekend or early next week, or shortly after the November 3rd deadline. Stay tuned for more details.
