Galaxy S5 & Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Details Emerge for U.S.

New Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update details have emerged for the United States ahead of release.

Earlier this week, Samsung finally gave the United States its first taste of Touchwiz-powered Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is the first update to land for Galaxy users in the United States but it certainly won’t be the last. Verizon’s rivals are cooking up Android 5.0 Lollipop updates in labs of their own and today, we’ve seen several new Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop details emerge.

Several weeks ago, Sprint’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update was confirmed for arrival. The update emerged in a User Agent Profile string on the company’s website and the update itself leaked out in test build form. Sprint still hasn’t confirmed the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update though the carrier is clearly making progress behind the scenes.

An eagle-eyed reader has spotted the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update lurking on Sprint’s website. The UA Profile string not only reaffirms Sprint’s plans to roll out the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, it also suggests that the Sprint Galaxy S5 will get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop as opposed to Android 5.0 or Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The sighting does not confirm a Sprint Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date but the change in version does suggest that the carrier is making significant progress towards a release. With a Verizon Galaxy S5 Lollipop update now out and available, it should only be a matter of time before Sprint rolls out its own version of Android 5.0.

That’s not all. Sprint’s website also reveals the company is working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update. The Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update for the SM-N900P is listed as Android 5.0 and not Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The listing doesn’t confirm anything else but it does point to a release at some point in the future, probably after the carrier is done pushing the update out to the flagship Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is currently pushing out to several different models in several different regions while the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update is limited to just one. Days ago, Samsung released the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update to the international variant in Russia though the update hasn’t yet moved beyond that. This is typical of a Samsung Android update roll out.

Samsung usually limits updates in the early goings so that it can weed out any potential problems ahead of a wider release. So far, the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update appears to be in good standing which means that we should see it spread to other international variants in the days and weeks ahead. Samsung’s roll outs historically have taken months to complete so while some users could see it soon, others will be left waiting.

The company’s also currently pushing out the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update though it has yet to land inside the United States. The Galaxy S4 Lollipop update is limited to users in Russia that own the international version of the device. If the update proves to be stable, it will start rolling out to other countries sometime in the weeks ahead.

Samsung is also poised to start pushing out a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. The update, which was reportedly delayed due to the Gear VR accessory, is supposedly going to be rolling out sometime this month. We have yet to see any U.S.-specific information emerge for the Galaxy Note 4 though we expect the United States to be near the front of the pack in terms of timing.

Its also scheduled to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 mini, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 at some point down the road. Samsung could also opt to roll the update out to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a device that’s now more than two years old and one that continues to see Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

Thanks, G!
