Our new Galaxy S6 concept allows us to share a iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 comparison that shows how these two flagship devices may compare. The iPhone 6 is true to life and the Galaxy S6 concept brings all the latest rumors to life so you can see what the new smartphone may look like.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 are two smartphones that we expect will go head to head in retail stores across the country shortly after the Galaxy S6 release date this spring. With rumors indicating a new metal design for the Galaxy S6 and an upgraded display this could be a harder decision for consumers to make.

This is a Galaxy S6 concept so even though the images represent our idea of what the smartphone could look like, this is not an official Galaxy S6 photo or press render. Thanks to these Galaxy S6 renders we know what the Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6 comparison could look like as two metal smartphones go head to head in 2015.

Samsung already scheduled an event on March 1st in Barcelona Spain where we will see the new Galaxy S6, but until that moment this is the best look at the upcoming device that we can offer. The iPhone 6 is almost six months old after a September 2014 release date and it remains incredibly popular as Apple rakes in a huge share of mobile profits.

See just what the two phones might share in this iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 comparison with over a dozen images of the two smartphones.

iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 Design

Our Galaxy S6 concept uses an all metal frame, like the one that leaked in early February. This leads to a design that looks a lot like the iPhone 6. As you can see in the image below, the edges of the two phones don’t curve in exactly the same way, but there is a similarity in the overall style.

When you look at the back of our iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 comparison you see an immediate difference. The iPhone 6 features an all metal design with antenna breaks on the back while the Galaxy S6 is shiny. That’s because our Galaxy S6 concept uses a glass back, like some rumors suggest Samsung will deliver this year. There are challenges to a glass back, but with advances in strengthened glass Samsung may be ready to deliver a glass back to the Galaxy S6 in four colors.

Design upgrades could make the choice tougher for consumers this year.

One change that this could mean is no more user-replaceable Galaxy S6 battery. One report claims Samsung will ditch this feature, but all signs still point to a Micro SD card slot that allows users to add up to 128GB of storage. With a 5-inch display the Galaxy S6 is slightly larger than the iPhone 6. The image below shows that a Galaxy S6 doesn’t need to be much bigger though.

Other parts of the iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 concept comparison show a similar style. In the gallery below you can see a headphone jack on the bottom of the Galaxy S6 and similar style volume buttons. Apple and Samsung settled a lawsuit in the past related to the design of the iPhone and Galaxy S smartphones, so if this matches the final design there may be a debate on how much is different.

The iPhone 6 dimensions are 138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm and the Galaxy S6 concept dimensions are 143.30 x 70.81 x 6.91mm.

iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 Displays

Samsung is no longer the go to option for users who want a big screen, but rumors indicate the Galaxy S6 display will deliver an upgrade that helps set it ahead of the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display that delivers a 1,334 x 750 resolution at 326 pixels-per-inch (ppi). There are multiple Galaxy S6 screen size rumors but based on leaks our concept uses a 5-inch display. We expect a Quad-HD display with a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution that delivers 587 ppi.

The edge of the Galaxy S6 display does not curve over like the iPhone 6, but both devices feature very small bezels on the sides to help keep the overall width of the device in check. Samsung earned praise for the Quad HD display in the Galaxy Note 4 last year for delivering a high-quality screen that is also power efficient. Expect similar technology in play for the Galaxy S6 display.

iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 Features

Rumors point to several key areas where the Galaxy S6 will deliver new features to keep up with or beat the iPhone 6 feature set.

Expect to use a fingerprint on to unlock both devices, and the Galaxy S6 could match the ease of using Touch ID this year.

We expect to see an improved fingerprint reader in the Galaxy S6 home button. On the GalaxY S5 and Note 4 users need to swipe a finger across the home button, which is problematic. Signs point to a fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S6 that user can place their finger on to unlock. This is how the iPhone 6 Touch ID sensor works and it allows users to unlock with the fingerprint in a variety of directions.

We also expect to see an upgraded camera on the Galaxy S6 that may jump to 16MP or 20MP complete with Optical Image Stabilization. The iPhone 6 features an 8MP sensor that does not include OIS, but does offer fast focusing thanks to Focus Pixel technology. Ultimately the test will be what the photos taken with the Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 look like, not the megapixel count.

Samsung may include OIS and an upgraded sensor to take on the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 added Apple Pay to the iPhone. This service lets users make mobile payments using NFC at stores that support NFC payments and with cards from banks who are part of the Apple Pay program. We could see LoopPay support on the Galaxy S6 as a mobile payment solution. LoopPay sends a wireless magnetic card signal to the area that you traditionally swipe a credit card on. IF this is true it could make Samsung’s solution widely more accepted than Apple Pay is.
