Over the past 3-4 weeks many Android smartphone owners have happily received updates to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software update announced back in October by Google, but one that has been missing is the HTC One (M7) Android 5.0 update. The company is still slowly delivering Lollipop for HTC One M8 owners, and now we have good news for those with the original HTC One (M7) from 2013.

We’ve seen Android 5.0 Lollipop updates arrive for the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, LG G3 and more, and now the original HTC One (M7) from 2013 is up next. HTC themselves just confirmed it’s rolling out in Europe starting today.

Back in November HTC confirmed many of its popular and most recent Android smartphones would receive an upgrade to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and now it’s finally starting to be released for multiple users. The One M8 is getting Android 5.0 in multiple regions, including Canada and the US, and now the original device is expected to get it shortly.

HTC One M9 - Exciting Tech 2015

Last month HTC admitted that they wouldn’t meet their initial goal of rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to all HTC One owners within 90 days of the Lollipop release date, which was February 3rd. Then a few days later the Sprint HTC One (M7) Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update started, and more have continued to arrive since.

That promise was for both the new HTC One M8 from 2014, as well as the original HTC One (M7) but neither received the update in the United States within 90 days, and it looks like those stateside with the original One still have at least a few more weeks, if not longer, to wait.

Jeff Gordon, Senior VP at HTC took to Twitter this morning and confirmed the original HTC One (M7) is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop starting today, but only in Europe for now. The only other original One with Android 5.0 is the developer edition and those with the Google Play Edition smartphone. He also took a moment to complain about the recent leaks of the company’s new HTC One M9 set to be announced on March 1st.

This is typical, as in previous years regions outside of the United States see updates first because of strict carrier testing in the United States by AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. This does however mean that HTC has finished the software update and is pushing it out to many regions, and it’s only a matter of time before the US carriers get on board. Most likely the update is in the final testing phase, and should be here sooner rather than later.

Google’s Material Design user interface guidelines have been elegantly blended into HTC Sense UI 6.0, which will be on board with the Android 5.0 update once it arrives for everyone. We’ve already seen plenty of this one the HTC One M8, and a new Sense UI 7 will be revealed with the HTC One M9 on March 1st. Which means the original HTC One could see Sense 7 next month also, but we’ll have to wait and see.

For now this is all we have to go on. HTC is currently busy preparing to launch and release a new HTC One M9, are pushing Android 5.0 Lollipop to the One M8 around the globe, and have now finally kicked off the HTC One (M7) Android 5.0 Lollipop update in Europe. Expect more details in the coming days or weeks regarding other regions, and for those in the US.
