Earlier this week we confirmed another Moto X Android 5.0 Lollipop update was getting ready to be released in the United States, but today we can now confirm that is indeed the absolute latest version of Android. AT&T is now pushing out Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for the Moto X.

One of the first smartphones to receive the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update that wasn’t a Nexus device was the pure edition unlocked Moto X from Motorola.com, and since then we’ve seen it arrive for the Verizon Moto X, T-Mobile, and even US Cellular. However, those on AT&T were left out until now. However, it was worth the wait.

The original Moto X last year was among the first devices to see Android 4.4 KitKat, and this year Motorola did the same thing for the Pure Edition Moto X, but not all carriers were quick this time around. We’ve recently seen updates for the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and now the LG G3 all to Lollipop, and now more Moto X owners are about to get Google’s latest release.

Yes, technically Android 5.1 Lollipop is the latest version of Android, but Google has yet to confirm or even announce the new software. Instead, the latest official version of Android is 5.0.2 Lollipop for the Nexus 7 tablet, and it looks like smartphones are up next. According to the official Motorola website the AT&T Moto X (2nd Gen) 2014 model is getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop starting today.

Until now, the AT&T Moto X was one of the only ones in the United States that had yet to see an update, but all other Moto X variants are on the initial Android 5.0 update that was full of bugs. Google’s since released a bug fixing and software stabilizing Android 5.0.1 update, and then Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which is what AT&T Moto X owners are receiving.

“Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is one of the most significant updates in recent Android history. It improves your experience in many areas including visual style and how you interact with your device.”  – Motorola

Earlier this week we saw reports that AT&T and Motorola were doing a soak test, letting users try the new software ahead of the release, but today they confirmed the soak test is now over and the AT&T Moto X Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update should be rolling out as of today.

Those with a Moto X on AT&T can look forward to an all new experience with Android 5.0 Lollipop. All the visual elements have been changed with “material design” for Android 5.0, there are improved notifications, lockscreen notifications, a redesigned notification pulldown bar with new quick toggles, and much more. Add in all the new animations and effects, and it will feel like a brand new device.

There are improved battery saving tools, a redesigned multi-tasking menu, and other general improvements and bug fixes. The update has reportedly arrived for a select few users already, and will continue to rollout over the course of the week.

As a reminder, this will be a staged and staggered rollout, so it may not arrive to all users at the same time. Most likely all AT&T Moto X owners will see Android 5.0.2 Lollipop by the end of the week. It’s a large update however, so we recommend downloading it over a WiFi connection. Users are welcome to head into settings > about phone > and tap check for updates to try and pull it manually, or just wait for the over the air notification to arrive.
