Sony will sell a special Metal Gear Solid 5 PS4. It’s not clear if it will arrive in the U.S.

The company will release a limited edition Metal Gear Solid 5 version of the PlayStation 4 that will become available in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on September 1st.

This exclusive bundle will include a limited edition 500GB PS4 that comes in a distinctive deep red with gold line detail, inspired by the look of Snake’s Bionic Arm.

A special metallic grey Dualshock 4 Wireless Controller, resembling the handgun held by Snake, is also included and both the PS4 and Dualshock 4 feature the unit emblem of Diamond Dogs, a private military organisation led by Snake. You’ll also receive the Day 1 Edition of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain which comes packed with bonus downloadable content.

Sony also confirms that it will offer Metal Gear Solid 5 bundles with the regular version of the PlayStation 4. It’s still not clear how much Sony will charge for the two bundles and those details could emerge at or around the game’s E3 2015 reveal.

In-Game Microtransactions Confirmed

The eagle-eyed team over at IGN has spotted an interesting Metal Gear Solid 5 release detail ahead of E3.

According to an Italian pre-order page for the game on the PlayStation Store, the game will feature microtransactions, also known as in-game purchases.

It’s not entirely clear what these microtransactions might be for though the publication claims that they could be used, at least in part, to speed up production of Big Boss’ Mother Base. While nothing is confirmed, it appears that others have discovered the same thing lurking in the game.

The Game Is Huge

Konami recently allowed certain publications access to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain ahead of E3 2015 and ahead of its release in September.

One of the most exciting details pertains to the size of the game. Gamespot’s Peter Brown spent a ton of time with the title and he claims that the game’s open-world is huge.

Series creator Hideo Kojima has claimed that the game is 200 times larger than Metal Gear Solid 5’s: Ground Zeroes and it looks like he was telling the truth.

Brown estimates that Afghanistan, just one of the settings in The Phantom Pain, is the size of 50 Camp Omegas. Camp Omega is the setting for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. He notes that if you were to travel by foot across the length of the Afghanistan level, you would likely need 45 minutes of real time.

Early Metal Gear Solid 5 Impressions

Earlier this week, a number of sites posted their initial impressions of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Gamespot was allowed 15 hours with the game and their impressions cover everything from Big Boss’ horse to some of the animals that emerge in the game to the process of constructing the Mother Base.

GamesRadar claims that the game is a mixture of The Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto and Kotaku claims that the game is different than other Metal Gear titles:

From what I’ve played so far, MGSV is legit. It’s totally different than any other Metal Gear game—farewell, CAUTION meter!—yet it’s still got that vibe you can only find in Kojima’s longrunning series. Few games have dialogue as incoherent, yet poetic. Few games make you feel like as much of a supersoldier.

IGN’s also gone into detail with the game and pulled out 19 of the most intriguing details about the gameplay. These range from snipers in the hills of Afghanistan to the ability to summon helicopters.

Konami only showed these sites a portion of the game which means that there’s still a ton to be announced and discovered. E3 2015 will almost certainly serve as the launch pad for many of these details and you’ll want to tune in as we cover the event from the showroom floor.
