Published

Apple still hasn’t confirmed a specific iPhone 5s iOS 9 release date but thanks to a growing number of leaks, we have a pretty idea about when iPhone 5s users can expect it. With those details in hand, we want to take a look at five important things to know right now about the iPhone 5s iOS 9 update.

In June, Apple hosted its annual WWDC conference for developers. During the opening keynote, the company outlined several new products that are of interest to developers and regular consumers. Among them, an iOS 9 operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

iOS 9 will be coming to replace Apple’s iOS 8 update and it will be doing so with a number of big time features and enhancements. It will be delivered to all devices capable of running iOS 8 which includes the iPhone 5s, Apple’s former flagship that arrived in the fall of 2013.

The iOS 9 update represents the iPhone 5s’ second major iOS update which means that it could see two more iOS updates before its kicked to the curb. With the iPhone 4s iOS 9 update, Apple appears to have shifted to a four year software upgrade plan for the iPhone.

As we’ve pushed away from WWDC, we’ve heard quite a bit about the iOS 9 update, its features, and its release date. Apple isn’t talking about its next upgrade but that should change in the near future. And that’s precisely why we want to fill iPhone 5s users in on the most important things to know right now. Here’s what you need to know about the iPhone 5s iOS 9 update as we move into September.

iPhone 5s iOS 9 Performance So Far

iPhone 5s iOS 9 Performance So Far

In June, Apple released an iOS 9 beta to those inside of its paid developer program. A few weeks later, the company released a public iOS 9 beta to anyone willing to sign up for the Beta Software Program. Anyone with a valid Apple ID can sign up and try iOS 9 on the iPhone 5s right now.

Thanks to testers in the iOS 9 beta, we've heard quite a bit about the iPhone 5s iOS 9 update's performance and features. Users have been providing feedback about the iOS 9 beta for iPhone 5s, even comparing it to the iOS 8.4 update

From what we've seen, and heard, the iOS 9 beta 5 has been performing well on Apple's former flagship, so good in fact, that it might be worth installing now that Apple's loaded it up with features and fixed a lot of the problems.

Keep in mind, this is still beta software, but know that you can downgrade back to iOS 8.4.1 if you decide that you don't like what's on board. If there ever was a time to try iOS 9 on the iPhone 5s, now might be it. Just be careful.

These videos don't show the final version of iOS 9 but they are important. One, because you can get a sense of the update's performance right now. iOS 9 beta 5 isn't the finished version of the update but it could be very close. And two, because you can get a feel for the update's features.

You do not want to go into the iPhone 5s iOS 9 release date blind and you'd be wise to keep track of the iPhone 5s iOS 9 beta as we move deeper into August. That way, you'll be extremely comfortable when the update arrives.
