New Apple TV 4 Rumor Puts Gaming in the Forefront

The new Apple TV 4 is said to be quite the gaming console that has Apple setting its sights on Microsoft and Sony.

We’re just days away from Apple’s iPhone 6s event where the company is expected to announce new iPhones, as well as the new Apple TV 4 that has been rumored for a while now. The new set-top box will supposedly get a huge overhaul over the Apple TV 3, arriving with a new design, a new remote, and iOS 9 that will include its own app store for the Apple TV, allowing for third-party apps other than the default channels that the Apple TV has had for a while.

The new remote is perhaps the biggest new feature that will hit the Apple TV 4, as it’s rumored to come with a touchpad, motion sensors (like the Nintendo Wii remote), and a built-in microphone to use with Siri, which is another feature that the new Apple TV is said to come with.

The new Apple TV remote will hopefully make it way easier to navigate through menus and easier to use the set-top box in general. The current remote is perhaps the most basic remote there is, coming with a D-pad and three buttons on a slim aluminum slab that’s all too easy to lose in between the couch cushions.

The new Apple TV 4 should be quite the living room entertainment device, and a new report even suggests that the Apple TV 4 will be quite the gaming machine as well.

According to the New York Times, Apple is expected to make gaming the “primary selling point” of the new Apple TV. It’s said that the new box will come with the hardware required for gaming, including better graphics, that new remote (which can double as a controller), and the new app store, which users can download games from.

However, it’s rumored that the Apple TV still won’t have what it takes to convince hardcore gamers to switch away from the Xbox or PlayStation, as those machines will still have better graphics, but Apple aims to target casual gamers who want basic games rather than complicated ones.

For those looking for a casual gaming experience, the Apple TV might be a good choice, especially if the price of the new Apple TV lands in $150 range like past rumors have suggested. This means that users wouldn’t need to shell out hundreds of dollars for a living room gaming console if they just plan on playing basic games on their television. Instead, they can buy a cheaper device that will be able to do the trick just fine.

The Nintendo Wii was one of Nintendo’s most successful gaming console of all-time, mostly thanks to its casual and basic gameplay that attracted all sorts of users, including older folks who wouldn’t have bought a gaming console otherwise.

The Apple TV could be the next Nintendo Wii of sorts, not only being able to stream video content, but also having the ability to play all sorts of games right on your television.

Of course, we’ll ultimately have to wait until Wednesday to see what Apple has up its sleeve for the new Apple TV, but right now things are looking good, but we’ll have to see whether or not the new box will be worth the price jump from the current $69 Apple TV 3, which received a permanent price drop earlier this year from $99, making it one of the cheapest set-top boxes on the market right now, which is why you might just want to buy an Apple TV 3 now instead of an Apple TV 4 when it releases soon.
