Published

on

The new Moto X Pure Edition is an exciting phone with a lot to offer for a relatively low cost. It delivers flagship features like a big 5.7-inch Quad-HD display, customization, a great camera and more. Now that pre-orders from Motorola are shipping we’re getting a lot of questions. Here we’ll explain how to take a screenshot on the Moto X Pure Edition.

Coming in at just $399 for the Moto X along with all the customization completely free (well, most of it) there are a lot of people who went with the Moto X this year, and they have questions. Everything from how to use the great new camera, how good the dual front-facing speakers are, and how to do simple tasks. Over the next few weeks we’ll be digging into everything the Moto X Pure has to offer.

Sometimes the easiest way to share a funny picture, save a text message, or show someone something on your phone is to take a screenshot, or capture what is being shown on the display, then send it in a text or email as an image. It’s extremely useful, and very easy to do once you know how. It’s been the same on most Android devices for years, and past the break we’ll explain how.

With every new Android smartphone this question comes up, so we always answer it. If you’ve ever owned or used an Android device in the past few years you’ll be right at home and probably won’t even need to search how to do this. However, if the customization and cheap price of the Moto X had you leaving Samsung or the iPhone, you’ll want to know how to do this. Below are the few simple steps you’ll need to take in order to capture and save a screenshot.

For those confused. A screenshot (or screencap) is essentially our smartphones capturing and saving whatever is on the screen. Users then draw on these images, edit them and more. This is a very handy feature everyone should know. Anything from sharing emails, saving pictures on social sites, and many other things can be done with this.

Instructions

It’s actually quite simple, and the same for almost every Android phone that isn’t made by Samsung.

All you’ll need to do is simply push and hold both the power button and the volume down key at the same time. Push both at exactly the same time, hold for a moment, and let go. This can be tough because they’re both on the same side, but it’s easy after you master it. Owners will hear a camera shutter-like sound and see a visual screen capture effect or animation right on that big 5.7-inch Quad-HD screen.

With both the power and volume buttons being on the same side you’ll likely need two hands to perform this task. That, or simply use one hand and turn the phone sideways to get a good angle to quickly long-press both buttons. Sometimes it takes a few tries to perfect the timing for beginners, but it’s really easy. Once users figure it out, it comes natural.

From here you’ll see the screen capture has been saved. It is now accessible in the notification pulldown bar to view, share, or even edit, and you can also head into the phones gallery app and find it for more sharing options, or to edit it with the editing software of your choice.

If you try and it doesn’t work, try again. It’s all about hitting the power and volume down buttons at the same time with a brief pause, then letting go. Timing is everything.

You’re all done and that’s all there is to it. This same method works on almost all Android smartphones and tablets these days. Give it a try and start sharing those funny memes or Facebook posts with friends or family. I always crop out the bottom buttons and notification drawer before sharing a screenshot. Enjoy the new Moto X Pure Edition.
