There are some Apple TV 4 problems, including the Remote app not working.

One of the biggest new Apple TV problems is that the official Apple remote app for iPhone and iPad does not control the new Apple TV 4.

This is not a deal breaker for everyone, but some users rely on this option to control the Apple TV that is not in the same area as the TV. The lack of this app also makes entering complex passwords and other long lines of text problematic.

It is not clear if Apple plans to develop the Apple Remote app for the new Apple TV.

I just left Feedback at Apple and wrote Time Cook personally. With my library of hundreds upon hundreds of Movies and TV Shows stored on my iMac and streamed to the AppleTV via shared computer libraries, the two big issues of Siri not being able to search there and the remote scrolling being ridiculously impossible are a deal breaker for me. Try to slide your thumb down on that track pad repeatedly in a perfectly straight line (so the list doesn’t change from Unwatched to Genre to showing all as you are trying to scroll) and you’ll immediately see the soft underbelly of the remote design. The Gen 3 remote does work with the new box, but why bother spending the money on the new box is it’s two biggest features don’t work right? And don’t even get me started on why this doesn’t include UHD.

I just got my apple tv yesterday and it is working great. You all just need to stop complaining so much. It works. There are a few minor bugs, but it is awesome.

That’s great that your Apple TV is working for you! Why do you assume that those of us that are having (assumption, minor) problems are just complainers and should not expect to get what we were promised and spent our hard earned money for? You just got your tv yesterday?

unexpectedly we lose the video. I can hear the audio, but video goes away. I have replaced the cables, checked connections. I noticed the Apple TV box runs hot. I wait it out, it cools down and comes back on.

Any idea what can be wrong?

In a word the new apple this shit, I have 3 other earlier models and they all work perfect, this one is so sloooooooow and thats it connected directly to my 3tb time capsule i get a faster speed wireless to my old apple tv2 .
It won’t play any of my music videos, it won’t connect to my mac mini which is connected to the same time capsule.
wake up Apple this is total crap.

Very poor implementation of a good idea. The lack of Siri (where did it say it wasn’t going to feature in every country?), lack of optical audio out, ridiculous password/keyboard rigamarole etc etc. Oh and the poor response of app developers. Starting to feel like giving Apple my loyalty for 20 years is a one-way thing. If Microsoft had put this out they’d have been laughed off stage. And don’t get me started on the hopelessly compromised and underpowered iPad pro. Something is rotten in Cupertino, methinks: the accountants have the creatives by the throats.

And I might add, it’s much better to post a criticism here than send it to, and have it ignored by, Apple.

The only power the consumer has in an instance of sub-standard products is to spread the word and, hopefully, force the manufacturer to up their game.

Be noisy when something stinks as bad as this, and be generous with praise when a manufacturer gets it right (which Apple could once be almost guaranteed to do, many many moons ago now, sadly).

I agree with the naysayers. I have loved all things Apple since our first iPhone. My appletv 3 worked great but hey! I’m a bit of a “I’ve gotta have a new toy” gal once in awhile so I splurged on the AppleTV 4. Soooooo very disappointed and I don’t know where to start.
Siri knows nothing and can’t find anything. Period. And she won’t even try…she hasn’t offered me one suggestion to help her to help me in the two months I have been encouraging her daily.
Apps might as well have been spelled with CR in front of them- they work marginally and there seems to be no support for them. I presently have an app that worked so bad I tried to uninstall/reinstall and it froze. It is now a white box on my home screen called a “null” app if you can believe it. I can no longer open the app, nor delete it and it is an app supported by Apple through which I paid a monthly subscription to to watch shows and movies in Canada. Tomorrow I will be wasting my precious weekend trying to fix something that shouldn’t be broken! It is a weekly occurrence by the way- I have yet to sit and relax for an evening without some irritating technical glitch that forces me to work to play. Humph!
Oh, and photo viewing? A joke. Every 5 pictures into a slideshow it stops and goes back to settings where you have to start slideshow again. And again. And again. And again. And again. You feeling the pain yet?
And another reason I spent hard earned/totally wasted money on this version is that you can add apps of your choice. That would be terrific if we were given a choice! I can get the Global TV app and the CBC app on my iPhone and iPad, yet there is none for AppleTV? It was a determining factor in my decision to buy this so that I would not have to switch to my computer to watch Canadian content.
There is a plus- I can now stream Apple Music from the AppleTV. Had to go to iTunes on my computer before. I like to stream Apple Music and watch my photos. Turns out, I can’t stream photos on the new AppleTV so I have to go to iTunes on my computer and stream photos and listen to music from there. So I guess that plus is factored out with a negative. AirPlay your photos from your iPad and listen to music? Sure, but you can only listen to your own music- Apple Music is on the selection to AirPlay in your iPad photos app, but you can’t actually play anything- they’re just teasing you.
The touchy freely pad on the remote? Great idea but a little like driving a single wheel drive car in a mud slick- not a lotta control. And unlike Siri on our mobile devices it is not intuitive and doesn’t seem to learn your gestures- sad because I’m sure they have the technology.
I have tons more complaints than I do compliments, and I don’t feel like I should have to have any. This is supposed to be a major improvement-cutting edge technology. I have never minded paying triple for an apple product because I have found them to have a superior product in the past. I seriously doubt I will be buying any new products from them until they do some radical improvements that make me love this Apple TV . It will take a lot to make me retract my comments to Apple that all the good stuff died with Steve Jobs…
