How to Find a Lost Fallout 4 Companion

If you decide to leave your companion somewhere, and I've done this a few times when I've encountered narrow corridors (they can sometimes get in the way), make sure you leave them somewhere that you'll remember.

If you tell your companion to stay, they're going to stay there. And if you go through an entire instance, you might forget that you arrived with said companion. And then you might fast travel somewhere and go about your routine before noticing that they're not there. (This happened to me.)

If you were smart (I was), you told them to wait next to the entrance of the cave or building. I always leave Dogmeat next to the entrance or a landmark so that I can find him when I start retracing my steps.

If you can't find them, either because you forgot or because they vanished, don't panic.

If you lose a companion, you'll want to check where you first found them. You'll also want to check your settlements.

For instance, I've found Dogmeat back at the Red Rocket after losing him during my travels. You might also think about building a dog house for him because he's been known to return there too.

If you're on a PC, you can use console commands to bring followers or NPCs back. That's an option if they're not at their place of origin or any of the settlements you've created.
