With the Samsung Galaxy S7 release date approaching, more and more details continue to surface. Rumors have been everywhere over the past two months, but a lot of details remain a mystery. That said, this week another leak is revealing what could be the official Galaxy S7 specs ahead of the release date.
Rumors of the Galaxy S7 started way back in September and October of 2015, but didn’t pick up steam until December. We now have a pretty good idea of what to expect, how many models are coming and more.
For now we know Samsung will at least release a Galaxy S7 and a Galaxy S7 Edge, but others rumors suggest a bigger 5.5 or 5.7-inch Galaxy S7 Edge+, and other things. We don’t know everything yet, but we’re starting to get a good idea of the final specs for the version coming to the United States. Read on for more details.
If rumors are accurate, we have less than a month to wait before Samsung announces and unveils the Galaxy S7 on February 21st in Spain for Mobile World Congress, a yearly trade-show event. The same day is when the world will see the new LG G5 too, so it should be an exciting day for Android smartphone users.
And as we said above, we have a pretty clear idea of what’s coming based on countless leaks. Everyone from the Wall Street Journal, the Korean Times, @evleaks and more have all chimed in. All of which have been somewhat reliable in the past. The Wall Street Journal wouldn’t report anything unless they felt pretty good about it. Which was a pressure sensitive display similar to Apple’s 3D Touch, a micro-SD slot, and a few other things. Evan Blass, known as @evleaks, “confirmed” there will be three models, not to mention both the Korean Times and Reuters mentioned the design will be almost identical to the Galaxy S6 from last year. So what’s new, some of the finer details.
The overall design should stay the same, but the Galaxy S7 Edge screen size is still a mystery. We don’t know if it will have micro-USB or USB Type-C for the connection and charging port, and we don’t know some other final details. That said, another benchmark for the AT&T Galaxy S7 surfaced today, and here’s what it suggests.
Galaxy S7 Specs (Rumored)
- 5.1-inch 2460 x 1440 Quad-HD AMOLED Display
- 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM
- 32GB of storage (and we’re hearing a micro-SD slot will be included)
- Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
- 12 Megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera
That’s only what the benchmark revealed. Suggesting the US models will have the new Snapdragon 820 8-core processor for its speedy performance and 4G LTE radios to support all major carriers. Then many other regions will likely see Samsung’s own Exynos processor, which is similar to what’s in the Galaxy Note 5, but improved for 2016.
Other leaks and rumors suggest the same design with a thinner camera so there won’t be as big of a camera bulge. That said, the camera will be better. Megapixels only tell part of the story. The smaller 12 megapixel camera will have a fast f/1.7 aperture for better low light images, faster shutter speeds, and overall better crisp images. So don’t worry about that. We’ve also heard it will have an IP67 dust and water-resistant rating, like the Galaxy S5, the same design as last year but slightly thinner, and a large 3,000 mAh battery with wireless charging, fast wireless charging, and Quick Charge 3.0. Or it will have fast charging in a different format if it has a USB Type-C reversible port, like the Nexus 6P.
Benchmarks can easily be faked, but this is one more sign pointing to a powerful Qualcomm 8-core processor and 4GB of RAM, and the 12 megapixel camera. Not a 16 megapixel camera like the Galaxy S6 or Note 5.
All said and done, these are all good things. The Galaxy S7 should be thinner, faster, more durable, look rather similar, take great photos and could be here sooner than we all think. Latest leaks believe it will be released on Friday March 4th, or March 11th. Stay tuned for more details.
