Google Authenticator isn't new for 2012, but there is more reason than ever to use this two-factor authentication for Gmail and other services.

The service combines your username and password with a constantly changing six digit code. The code is accessible in the app and a backup code can be sent by text.

The Google Authenticator app is available on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry and is good for more than just securing a Google account. The service also works to secure Dropbox and other third-party sites and services.
