Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Remains MIA
Last week, Verizon finally put its stamp of approval on the long-awaited HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update, an update that started rolling out to owners today. However, owners of the other device that also saw its Android 4.0 update delayed by HTC and Verizon back in 2012, the Droid Incredible 2, are unfortunately still in the dark about their upgrade.

Earlier today, the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update started rolling out to owners who endured a five months delay. In August of last year, HTC announced that the ThunderBolt ICS update would not be rolling out that month as scheduled and said that work on the update would continue. And that it did as the ThunderBolt’s Android 4.0 update rolled out today.
Over the last five months, much of the attention has been placed on the ThunderBolt’s ICS update. However, its update wasn’t the only one that was delayed back in August.
The Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update, like the ThunderBolt’s, was also slated for a release by August, only to be delayed in the same fashion. Since then, Droid Incredible 2 owners have been searching for answers, hoping for Android 4.0 to replace Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
@windexster Once we’re closer to final software availability, we’ll let you know. Thanks for your continued patience and support.

Today’s arrival for the ThunderBolt should instill hope in owners that may have lost it over the course of the last five months but unfortunately, it doesn’t offer any kind of specifics in regards to the Droid Incredible 2 update’s whereabouts.

HTC is, in fact, still telling owners that it will alert them to the update’s availability when it gets closer to rolling out but gives no mention of when that roll out will take place.
Hopefully, now that HTC and Verizon have worked out the issues with the ThunderBolt’s update, the same connectivity issues that Droid Incredible 2 owners were made to believe were responsible for their update’s delay, we’ll see the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update roll out soon.
Unfortunately, even with today’s good news, HTC and Verizon aren’t saying whether that will be the case.

Thanks for keeping Inc 2 owners updated on the web. Don’t want to let HTC and Verizon off the hook, especially now that T-bolt got their ICS updates. The Incredible S in Europe got theirs earlier last year. It seems that all those similarly specked phones would make it easy to develop the update for the Inc 2.

As a Droid Incredible 2 owner, I feel even if they update the device its a little too little too late, like me most of us Droid Inc 2 owners are nearing the end of their contract and it will start to be time to upgrade anyways. Its sad that the device which I bought only a couple of years ago never got any real updates (and missed 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2). HTC and Verizon need to stop worrying about having the ultimate selection of phones and focus on a few phones which they’ll fully support for at least two or three years, if someone buys a Droid phone they shouldn’t expect it to never be updated.
In the end on my phone upgrade I got an iPhone, I absolutely love the droid OS but hate the fragmentation. I’ll probably go back to droid one day, but when I do it will be a Nexus or something which actually gets updates, I don’t see myself buying a Verizon-HTC again.

Verizon is the one that’s really dropped the ball here. The Incredible-S (European version of the Inc.2) has ICS already – the problem is that there’s not enough room for ICS and Verizon’s bloatware. Don’t blame HTC for Verizon’s crap, folks – this is all Verizon’s fault. I have no problem with HTC – Verizon, on the other hand, really bothers me..

They don’t get it. Or maybe they do, but don’t care. At any rate, my contract runs out in about 5 months and I’ll go somewhere else for service, AND to another vendor for a phone. I can’t know if it was HTC or Verizon who dropped the ball on ICS. But the ball was serious dropped and one, or both of them, demonstrated that making my experience of owning the HTC inc2 on Verizon pleasant, was simply not a priority.
BTW, my employer gave me a Samsung Galaxy S II skyrocket with AT&T for work use. It came with Gingerbread, but they got ICS (4.04) out reasonably quick. Now they haven’t updated it since then, but its still nicer than Gingerbread.
