Dr. Dre’s Compton is out and you can listen to it in iTunes or on iPhone. If you can find it. Here, we show you how to find Dr Dre’s Compton on iTunes and iPhone so that you can listen to it for free.

After years and years of rumors and speculation, Dr. Dre is back though it’s not with the album that many people were expecting.

Instead of Dr. Dre’s Detox, the acclaimed rapper and producer has released an album called Compton, a compilation album that features big names like Eminem, Ice Cube, The Game, and Xzibit. Its release comes a few days before the release of the N.W.A. bioptic, Straight Outta Compton.

On August 1st, Dr. Dre announced that he would be releasing his brand new album exclusively on iTunes and Apple Music. The move is sure to frustrate users on other platforms but it makes a whole lot of sense: Dr. Dre is an Apple employee.

Earlier today, Dr. Dre and Apple released Compton on iTunes and Apple Music and iOS and Mac users with the proper software installed can now listen to the album, for free, for a few hours. Unfortunately, Apple Music and iTunes don’t make it easy to find.

How to Find Dr. Dre’s Compton on iTunes

Dr. Dre’s Compton will be streaming through iTunes the Apple Music application for a limited time. For the next three hours (6PM-9PM PST), you can stream the album and all 16 of its tracks on your Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if you know where to look. The album is an hour long.

On Mac, you’ll need to download the latest version of iTunes. If you don’t want to download the latest version of iTunes, you’ll at least need iTunes 11.1 so that you can access the Radio feature. The album is streaming over iTunes Radio.

Once you’ve installed the correct version of iTunes, you’ll want to follow this link. This will bring up a page in your browser. It should bring you to a screen that features a bright blue button that reads Listen in iTunes. It looks like the screenshot below.

Click that button and it will open up iTunes and Dr. Dre’s Compton and its track list should start playing in your iTunes music player.

If you already have the right version of iTunes and you want to skip that step, you can fire up iTunes and click the “New” tab. Once you’re there, you’ll see a pink button that says “Listen Now.”

You should be able to skip around songs for three hours but once that three hours are up, the streaming will end. (Note: Some people have told us that they’re unable to skip songs in iTunes so it might not work for you.)

How to Find Dr. Dre’s Compton on iPhone

If you want to listen to Dr. Dre’s Compton on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you’ll need to have Apple’s iOS 7 update installed so that you can access iTunes Radio. We recommend downloading the company’s iOS 8.4 update which includes the new Apple Music application.

Once you’re there, you’ll want to click on the “New” tab that’s located in the navigation bar on the bottom of the application. You can see it in the screenshot above.

Once you click New, you should see a huge splash image for Dr. Dre’s album premiere. All you have to do is click Listen Now and it will fire up the album on your device.

Dr-Dre-2

We’ve been unable to skip around tracks on the iPhone on iOS 8.4 so if you want to move around, you’ll want to try iTunes.

Once the three hour period is over, you’ll need to purchase it via digital download through Apple Music or iTunes. The album will be available starting tomorrow.

It appears that Dr. Dre’s Compton will also be coming out on CD though the release date will come a little later on August 21st.
